Chapter Four: Complications

Katherine sighed in relief. It was the end of her class. She quickly stood and walks back to where the dormitories were. She needed a more quiet space to read the note. Also to look out for anybody that may want to harm her in any way. She walked inside the dorm she shared with Caroline, Elena, and MIA Bonnie. She placed her bag on her bed unfolding the note. Her muscles tensed and her breath caught mid-inhale.

Meet me at the café at 7. Don’t be late –E

She glanced around the room. No one was there and she couldn’t hear anybody outside. She relaxed but only slightly. For all she knew it could be a trap. Sure her aging was normal and sure she had two vampire “friends” but that didn’t make her invincible. Katherine was paranoid. She swallowed hard ripping the note walking to the bathroom flushing it down the toilet. She sighed feeling anxious and slightly nauseas. She glanced around the bathroom feeling lightheaded. She sensed something was up. It was as if she suddenly were in a dream. Her blinking became slower as she heard the door open. The sound was muffled but she could hear Caroline’s voice.

“Elena?” Caroline called, “Katherine? Anybody?”

“In here…” Katherine muttered. She thought she spoke louder but her senses were off. Her whole body was off. She turned in what she felt was slow motion and looked at Caroline’s blonde hair and worried face. Then Katherine’s world went slowly black. She felt the slightest feeling she was falling. Then a sudden pain shot into a part of her head she was too out to pin point. Then she felt nothing at all as her body lay there motionless as her heart continued to beat and her lungs continued to pump air into her body.

Damon swallowed hard.

“Tables turning are never good,” he said. Arabella nodded sitting down on the ground looking up at Damon. She looked innocent, angelic. Peaceful and beautiful in a way that made Damon’s heart slightly ache. She was exactly like Elena. But had Katherine’s determination mixed in her. She was beautiful and stunning and alluring. Her childlike innocence radiated through the dark walls of the Salvatore Cellar. Her voice was soft. When calm she spoke of only things that were logical. Things that were helpful. She looked up hearing a door slam and heavy breathing with hurried footsteps. Damon turned towards the noise and arched an eyebrow.

“Well if it isn’t the Bennett….” His voice trailed off as his eyes widened. Bonnie’s appearance was distraught. She was tense and sweaty and anxious with worry. She looked like something horrible was about to come upon them. Damon swallowed hard tensing bracing himself for the impact. “What is it?”

“I lost Tatia and Amara,” Bonnie said looking at him breathless. Damon’s eyes widened looking at her shocked.

“No way… You’re kidding right? You have got to be kidding,” he said. Panic began to rise in his voice. Arabella stood walking to the bars. “Not now!” he snapped looking at her. There was undeniable emotion in his face. But it wasn’t one specific emotion. He was anxious, worried, and scared. He was scared of losing something he cared so deeply about. Arabella swallowed slightly and nodded taking a step slightly back. She knew he was scared to lose Elena.

“Bonnie?” Jeremy’s voice echoed right before his footsteps did a few moments before he himself appeared. Damon looked at him.

“Why the hell aren’t you looking?!” he hollered. He was getting into full scale panic mode. His breathing was quickened and he felt light headed. Vampires aren’t supposed to be light headed, he told himself. He swallowed hard. This was all the normal anxieties of a human, but vampirism made it more intense. He was never the one to cry but he wanted to burst into tears right then and there and give up. He looked at Arabella’s scared face and knew immediately he couldn’t give up. He would find Amara and Tatia. Even if he had to die in the process.

“Well if it isn’t Elijah’s bastard of a brother?” Tyler tauntingly drawled out smirking at his enemy. Klaus tensed his face displaying pure hatred and disgust for Tyler.

“What are you?!” he demanded. He was shaking with rage and overprotective aspects. Tyler wasn’t supposed to be here. Not yet. Not while Hayley was going through the most crucial part of his scheming plan against Tyler.

“I’m your worst nightmare,” Tyler said with a snarl at the end. He was still smirking. He loved being more powerful than the original hybrid. He could sense Klaus’s fear. It was an amazingreward. Klaus was scared of him. Klaus was weak against him. Klaus was powerless against him and his army he was training as they spoke. Klaus was a porcelain doll and he was about to be crushed.

“What are you doing here?!” Klaus screamed again. There was more fear in his voice than he would have liked. He was shaking as was his tone. He was looking at Tyler. He couldn’t display the poker face he had been able to before. He was scared. He was angry. And he was hurt. He was ready to kill Tyler once and for all.

“I’ve come to give you a nice baby shower gift!” Tyler spat. Klaus tensed and his eyes widened hearing a crash of windows in the kitchen.

Hayley’s eyes snapped open with a start hearing a crash in the kitchen. She was already restless from Niklaus’s yelling but the crash was too much. She let out another gasp placing a hand on the bump. She frowned feeling the baby kick rapidly. It was a painful pace and it was as if it were in distress. It was worried, scared even to be born. Hayley’s breath faltered as she sat up. She tensed feeling a hand on her shoulder. She hoped it was Elijah but when she looked it was just Rebekah who too was tense.

“Come with me,” she said lowly helping Hayley up. She let her to the back of the living room to a office type room. There she pushed the carpet opening a large trap door. Large enough for Hayley and her oversized baby bump to get through. “Go down there,” Rebekah instructed. “Don’t be afraid to fall. Marcel is down there too.” Hayley let out a slight groan looking cautiously at the bump. She heard the next window crash in the living room.

“That’s just a room away…” she said as if in a trance. She was in too much pain to make sense of all this. Adrenaline was pumping through her and her fright kept her from screaming in pain. Rebekah’s head snapped towards where the door was. The doorknob was being struggled with. The hinges were on their last stand. Any longer and whoever was behind the door would come barging in.

Hayley held her breath and sat down. Her feet dangled down. Her heart was racing and she felt like bursting into tears.

“Stupid pregnancy hormones,” she whimpered. Then she let herself fall holding in a scream silently thanking god in her head that Marcel had caught her as Rebekah had promised.
