Nova sat quietly next to Rae, her foster sister, as her foster mother walked fastly through the kitchen. Before heading out to work, she kissed both girls' cheeks and let them know that she would not return as soon as she wished.

Although Nova had been in that house since she was nine years old (which had been seven years before), she had never been adopted; not because Maya (her foster mother) nor Mae didn't want to, but for some political reason or some law that she never had understood.

Both girls had packed up their things when their mother was home, but Rae's destination wasn't Sonnenfeld High, unlike Nova.

-

- Where are Nova and Nix? - Blaise's voice was heard as Mae and Athena's steps became closer to where he standed, accompanied by Keon.

All of them would always question themselves about Blaise. He was probably the best person any of them knew, but at the same time it was as if none of them knew Blaise at all. He was supposed to graduate the year before, but since they knew him he had never gone to school. He lived alone, in a really tiny house, worked at a local mechanic and sometimes would even make some shifts on a metal pieces factory. They didn't know why, but he never seemed to want to talk about it so they didn't ask much.

- As if you didn't know those two. Nova couldn't obviously miss a day of school or all the effort she did during these school years would end up to be a waste. - Keon mocked which led to Rae playfully punching his arm. - And Nixon, well, you know Nix. He's either trying to seduce some sophomore, or fake smiling at his dad's friends. I'd bet on the second, although there would be an high probability of the first also being a correct choice.

The boy lighted up a cigarette, putting it on his mouth so he could play with the lighter, lighting up the flame and passing his hand through it, extinguishing it. He handed the cigarette over to Athena who layed her back on the ground and enjoyed the cigarette for a while before heading it over to Blaise.

- You know I don't smoke. - He muttered, leading Athena to head it over to Rae instead.

- You don't know what you're missing out. - Keon told him, letting his hand move through his hair, as if he was trying to mess it even more.

- Maybe a quicker death. - Blaise blurted.

Keon let a dry laugh escape his mouth before lighting up another cigarette, allowing both Rae and Athena to keep the previous one to themselves. And after letting it touch his lips again, he turned to Blaise. - Maybe that's why I do it.

-

His father's friends were already gone, so Nix didn't have to maintain the fake smile that had filled his face the whole day. He went up to his room and changed from the fanciest suit, to the first white tee and black jeans he could find.

When Mr. Kuczek, his beloved father asked him where he was going at eleven in the night, he just simply looked at him and blurted - As if you cared. Goodnight, father. - He hissed the last word. - Don't expect me, I won't be coming home. - And with this said he hit the door as hard as he could, knowing that it would enfuriate his father even more.

He ran as fast as he could through the empty streets of the town he had grown to hate. He didn't stop until he saw five people laying right in front of him. The only place in that town that he didn't hate was there, and those were the only people he cared about, even though sometimes he wouldn't show it.

Athena was sleeping with Keon's black sweater on, and Rae seemed to be close to fall asleep as well, but Nova wouldn't stop rambling about how they hadn't told their mom they were staying there, leading Rae to tell her that Maya was already used to it. Meanwhile Blaise was just being Blaise and after patting Nix's shoulder in some kind of "hey mate" type of way, he walked a few meters away from them and climbed to the roof of an abandoned van and layed there, just looking up.

Keon throwed Nix a beer and the black-haired boy sat next to him, but soon left him to lay next to Athena, who raised her head in order to place it on his chest. Nix saw that Blaise was still awake as well, looking at nowhere in particular. So he got up and walked towards him, climbed to the roof of the van and sitted next to the long haired boy.

- What's wrong? - Blaise asked him calmly.

- What do you mean? - Nix looked at him, not really following what he meant.

- You don't look okay, what happened?"

Nix told him a little bit of how his day had gone and how tired he was of having to deal with his father. He only stopped when while looking around he noticed that Rae was awake and had her eyes fixed on Blaise.

It wasn't new to any of the group that Rae liked Blaise.

- You know she likes you, right? - Nix turned to Blaise, who looked down.

- Yeah... I - He stopped for a few seconds. - I know...

The both of them kept talking, eventually noticing that Rae was already sleeping. They talked about everything in general, but specially and detailedly about how screwed up things were at Nix's house.

- It's not even a home anymore. It hasn't been for many years. - Nix would always show his true feelings whenever he drank alcohol, even if it was in small portions. Alcohol had an unusual effect on him. He could drink the tiniest bit, but his heart would be worn on his sleeve right away.

Blaise noticed how tears were starting to form in Nix's eyes, which led to his being watery as well.

- You'll always have a home here, Nix.
