I pulled at my hair. Velma and Katie had known that I wouldn't want him coming to my house so he was going to pick me up at Katie's and they were gonna help me get dressed. He'd told me to wear a dress so I'd brought a few and some sandals since it was pretty warm. We finally settled on a light blue strapless sundress and beige sandals.
I watched in the mirror as Katie and Velma bustled around me, scrunching my hair and adjusting my dress.
"You look beautiful, " Katie assured me.
"Absolutely gorgeous," Velma backed her.
I smiled and looked in the mirror, "I can't wait for the date."
"Me neither," Katie gushed, "And since you get to come back and spend the night here until next Saturday, I can hear plenty about it!" She smiled broadly.
I rolled my eyes and laughed, "Oh joy."
"You know you'll love it," Velma kidded, "I mean, I'll be here too so it shall be an amazing week."
"Yeah," I smiled, "Me and my girls."
Then the doorbell rang.
"That's him!" Katie squealed, "I'll go get the door, Velma you wait up at the top of the stairs with her and when he gets inside I'll yell so she can start down the steps."
Then she turned and ran down the steps to answer the door.
"Hello?" I heard Jude say, "I'm here for Amey."
"She's coming," she replied sweetly then yelled, "Amey! He's here!"
Velma gave me a tiny push and I began to walk slowly down the steps. Jude smiled broadly when he saw me and when I got to the bottom of the steps, he took my hand.
"Be back before Sunday!" Katie called then turned to Velma, "Our little Amey is growing up." She wiped her eyes and I was pretty sure she was actually crying.
I turned to Jude, "Ready?"
"Yeah," he laughed and led me to his car, which was a 1973 black Mustang.
He opened my door for me, shut it, and walked around to his side.
"You look gorgeous," he said. His blue eyes softened and I felt a little bit faint but shook it off as he started the car.
"Tonight should be fun," he winked at me, "It's a suprise though so you have to wear a blindfold until we get there. Yes, I know it's cliche but I like cliche."
I laughed, "Just gimme the blindfold."
"Hmmm," he said as he tied the blindfold on me, "I must be growing on you. I figured I would get a good cussing first."
"You probably would but how could I say no when you asked so sweet," I smiled, "Because I like cliche too."
"Really?"
"Yeah," I grinned, "But let's hurry up and get to where we're going so I can see."
"Yes ma'am," he replied and I felt as he began to drive.
He chattered away about everything he could think of as we drove and finally, after what felt like a while, he pulled the car over and helped me out.
"Careful now," he warned as he led me by my hand.
I followed him until he stopped me suddenly.
"Wait here," he whispered then I heard him walk off.
I waited until he came back and finally took the blindfold off.
I gasped, we were in a big clearing surrounded by trees that had thousands of sparkly lights strung onto them.
"I told you I was cliche," he whispered from behind me, "Have a seat." A picnic table was in the middle of the clearing and now he pulled he helped me sit down then sat on the other side of the table.
"It's beautiful," I whispered and smiled at him.
"Just like you," he said as he reached across the table to gently touch my jaw.
And that was the moment that I knew, in my heart, that Jude Wilson was the guy for me.
