~Aurelia~
"Are you excited, Aurelia?" Shadow, my black cat, asked me. She casually strode parallel to me. I shifted my arms to get a better grip on the box I was carrying.
"Of course I'm excited, Umbra." I chirped. Shadow chuckled and mewed. She reflected the same happiness I had now.
"Umbra, it's obvious Aurelia and Winona would be excited. They're graduating early and at the top of their class." Midnight said plainly. I never understood why Midnight hardly ever showed much positive emotion. Shadow on the other hand didn't mind showing her happiness.
"Oh Mediam, why can't you at least be excited for once?" I placed the box by the staircase in the hallway. Shadow crawled on top of it and looked down on Midnight. He pounced onto the box and nuzzled Shadow's head.
"Trust me Umbra, I'm excited. I just know how to keep my excitement under wraps. Unlike some people I know." He pointedly stated. She hissed and stomped away from him. I laughed and turned back toward the boxes that were neatly stacked outside the dorm room. I was more than excited and nervous for this. Winona and I were 'graduating' and would finally be free from NicholsAcademy.
And by graduating, I meant that we got to leave here before the other students in our grade. The people who knew about our secret-our protectors-knew that it wasn't safe to hide out in a human academy. Our magic was even more powerful than a royal. And with that power came great danger. It was for our own good that we were leaving now. Right after I was revived from the dead, other supernatural creatures were out looking for us.
It wasn't safe for us anymore, so the Headmaster authorized us our ticket out of here. Winona had already made plans to buy a small house just for the two of us. The house sat on private and protected property. I just had to keep reminding myself that.
Pulling myself away from my thoughts, I decided to consult my feelings with Shadow. She was my familiar and could sense my feelings. I was in desperate need of reassurance for this. The Academy has been my home for as long as I can remember. Leaving it was like leaving all of my memories behind.
"Umbra, can I talk to you for a second?" I asked. No answer...strange.
"Umbra? Mediam? Come out you two." Silence. I groaned, not today. They can't just go wandering around today of all days. I tried reaching out to Shadow, but she wasn't responding. I could still feel her emotions there though, but they changed very often from anger and frustration to confusion. Either she couldn't feel my worry through our bond or she was blocking me.
Notum vocant, Umbra. I chanted the spell in my head repeatedly, but no Shadow. This was when I began to panic. There was no way I was leaving Shadow behind. Not to mention that Midnight was missing too.
Fantastic.
I sped down the hall to the dorm room Natalie, Blaire, Winona, and I shared as roommates. Used to share, I corrected myself. Natalie was out in the woods running a werewolf pack in Montana. Blaire was out being shapeshifter queen someplace where shapeshifters would hang out at. I don't know, but they weren't here anymore and leaving this dorm room to the other students-who would eventually occupy it-put more negative feelings inside of me. But the Headmaster might not authorize that. We had to keep supernaturals away from the humans in and out of the school.
