Toby's P.O.V.
Me: Wanna hang out today?
Cecilia: Sure, where should we meet?
Me: You like Starbucks?
Cecilia: Basic much?
Me: Just a little
Cecilia: I guess Starbucks will work
Me: See u there in like 10 mins
Cecilia: K see ya
Things were going smoothly. I had plans with Cecilia, my mom and dad were at work, and Connor and Riley were just watching TV in the living room. I got ready as quick as possible and went into the living room.
"Hey I'm going out with a friend. I will be back later," I said and started heading out the door.
"Which friend?" Riley asked.
"...Joe."
"K tell him I said hi!" Connor said, obviously wanting me to leave so he could focus on his show.
"K be safe and don't die," Riley said bidding me goodbye.
"I'll try my best," I said and went out the door.
Starbucks was only like a 5-10 minute walk from my house. Outside was a bit chilly, but not too cold that I needed to wear a heavy coat. I was still cold, nevertheless.
I walked into Starbucks and saw Cecilia already there sitting at a table.
"You took forever," she complained.
"It was like ten minutes. Calm down."
"You ready to order?" she asked.
"Yeah of course." We got in line a waited our turn. There was only one other person in line so it didn't take too long for us to order and get our drinks.
We sat down and talked for a bit while we drank.
"Wanna play twenty questions?" She asked me.
"Sure. You go first though."
"Ugh ok. Lets start of basic. What's your favorite color?" She asked.
"Blue," I answered (a/n~ idk if that's actually Toby's favorite color). "What about you?"
"Are you just going to ask the questions I ask you?
"Yeah that's why I had you go first."
"You little shit. My favorite color is purple."
That's how the whole day went. Asking and answering questions. Time flew by fast and neither of us was paying attention to how long it had been. I had gotten a couple of calls on my phone but I ignored them and turned my ringer off. We kept talking about everything and nothing at the same time. Then, the Starbucks door opened and in walked an angry Riley.
"Toby!" he yelled at me and walked over.
"Shit," I whispered.
"Toby you've got a hell lot of explaining to do," he said.
"Riley I'm sorry but-"
"Will someone please tell me what it going on right now?" Cecilia asked.
"Is this the Joe that you came to hang out with?" Riley asked me, completely ignoring Cecilia's question.
"Her name could possibly be Jo!" I argued.
"I recognize her from yesterday."
"Once you two stop fighting, could you tell me what the hell is going on?" Cecilia asked stopping both of us from talking.
"Toby lied to me about who he was hanging out with. He said he was hanging out with his friend Joe. You weren't answering my calls so I came to see what was going on." Riley explained.
"Why is this such a big deal? Why can't he hang out with me?" She asked. Riley and I stood there speechless not knowing what to say. What were we some post to tell her? That she looks like a dead girl?
"Because I'm grounded," was the best excuse I could come up with.
"You could've just told me that. I would've understood. What did you do?" She said.
"He flipped our mom off," Riley said. I looked at him with a face that said 'really?' "So we have to hurry home. Nice seeing you."
"Bye Cecilia. See you later."
"Bye Toby. Good luck being grounded."
Riley practically dragged me out of the cafe. "You idiot! I told you not to talk to her."
"I shouldn't have to revolve my life around Connor! Why can't I just talk to someone I like?" I yelled back.
"Because if Connor sees Cecilia, there is a chance that he could break and do something to himself. Do you want that?"
"Of course I don't! But I don't want to have to let Cecilia go because of Connor."
"I understand, but I'm just worried about Connor's safety. I'm sure we can figure something out."
