Chapter One - Nefarious Threat

School had ended, and I went to pack up in my hotel. I had already checked out, so all I had to do was empty the room. All of my belongings were packed up in suitcases, maybe one or two. I didn't own many things, and I didn't need to.

What people don't realize is, all we need are the essentials of life, maybe a few personal items, but that's all the required things that we need. We don't REQUIRE a new Bench jacket, we just need a jacket. We don't NEED Coach bags, just a bag we put our stuff in.

A couple of brief knocks at my door interrupted my thoughts. Kicking a few things to the side, I walked to the door, and opened it to reveal none other than -

"Brayden, what are you doing here?" I sighed as I turned around instantly.

"Invite me in." he declared, looking around my hotel room.

I sniggered, remembering that the old 'vampires can't come in your house unless invited' was true.

"Just let me put on my sexiest lingerie and I'll invite you in a sec!" I joked.

He gave out an annoyed sigh. "Just let me in."

I rolled my eyes. So much for some humor in this atmosphere. "Fine, come in."

As Brayden came in, he glanced around the room.

It was quite a nice room actually. The walls were a neutral beige with two white small couches lining the walls. A small closet sat near the corner with a few clothes hangers occupying the space. A glass coffee table was in front of the couches. A huge window that gave a beautiful view was to the opposite wall. You could see the city there, and it was absolutely gorgeous at night. You could see all the luminous lights from windows, the loud trafficking of cars, and the tenebrous night sky.

The bed was laid against the wall, backboard first. A king size, to be precise, and some sort of light that had a square filter with many holes in them, giving an illusion of stars when you looked up.

"Leaving already?" he raised an eyebrow while eyeing my suitcases an empty room. I silently nodded. "Wouldn't that make you look suspicious? Leaving right after a job?"

"Not if unless you tip me off. Anyway, I registered at the school with the surname 'Reeve', so I'm unrecognizable. Everyone thinks that if you have a fake name, your real one won't resemble your fake. I responded, and headed to the kitchen, Brayden tailing me- obviously curious.

He furrowed his eyebrows and pursed his lips, obviously not trusting me or my gut feeling. "Right. "

I crossed my arms. "And now, for the reason of appearing?" I questioned, as I sipped a portion of my glass of water. I put the small glass down on the table, and waited for his reply.

"I brought a map, of the dump sites of the murders. There was a recent one this morning, a human. A hunter to be precise. The Hall's dumpsite has been cleaned. No traces of anything. Someone came and cleaned it out during the night." He spoke and slid a piece of paper across my kitchen table to me. I began to analyze the data.

Red dots represented the vampires, the blue ones were the humans. There were very few humans, which I was glad for, but the numbers were increasing. Dates and details were jotted on the back.

"All of the dump sites are within a hundred kilometer radius." I revealed while frowning.

"I noticed that too. These people are way smarter than they seem. There's a trick to this. " he pointed out.
