The cold air of January grasped ahold of me as I walked out of my tiny house that was tucked away in a vast expanse of woods. Dead leaves rustled as they hung on for dear life in the trees that could do nothing to help them. Here and there, ravens called to each other.
A sigh left my lips as I wrapped my jacket tighter around me, walking briskly down the dirt path that lead to the end of the driveway. I didn't exactly want to leave the cozy little home that I had just moved into, but I only had one year of high school left, so I might as well get it over with.
My last experience with school hadn't gone that well, so this little town that I had first opened my eyes in was my new beginning after Chicago. It might not have been the best idea to move into a town where everyone could get into your business, yet it was better than the constant abuse of the students in my past school. With my power, I could have easily persuaded them to stop, yet using them made me feel wrong. Like I was always doing something wrong just by thinking about it.
Shaking my head, my vision lightly blurred as I had taken my glasses off since they had started to fog up. After blinking a few times, I could see most of my surroundings. I was nearing the school, the rambunctious noise of immature students reaching me rather quickly, as well as the purrs of a few cars that were most likely overly expensive.
Nervousness nearly overwhelmed me, yet I pushed it down as I stepped out of the woods and onto the street, quickly crossing. The office was easily spotted, as were the stares from some of the students. I held onto the end of my sweater, a habit I had picked up out of fear. It kept me oddly calm, as long as I had something to hold onto.
No one approached me as I made my way into the office, nor even gave me a second glance. It was what I was accustomed to, being invisible to all.
There was a nagging feeling in the back of my mind, it then quickly turned into a sharp pain, after which it quickly disappeared. My head turned, and I met the eyes of a man, who stared me down.
His eyes were nearly black, and he was of asiatic decent. His outfit consisted of a red jacket and black jeans, and he had a menacing air about him. An awkward amount of time later, he glanced away giving me a chance to escape.
It was now obvious to me. The man wasn't human, and he had been trying to get into my mind. Terror seeped into my heart as I thought about what his standing could be. The pain meant that he was a demon, whereas if he was an angel it would have just been a subtle brush, as though a feather had been brushed against the back of your neck. My eyebrows creased in confusion as I made my way to the desk. This was definitely something that I hadn't anticipated, and it could cause problems for the peaceful year that I had planned.
A small smile graced my lips as I greeted the secretary, who handed me my schedule and gave me a map, which I threw away as I walked to my locker. There wasn't any need for it, since the school wasn't that large anyways.
As I shoved a few of my books inside the locker, students milling around, an arm landed on my shoulder. I stiffened immediately, snapping at the person to get off of me. A chorus of "oohs" followed, and I had then turned to face whoever the unfortunate soul was.
It turned out to be the same guy from earlier, but this time he was surrounded by what I assumed was his "squad" (or whatever the hell kids call it these days). He looked mildly pissed off that I had pushed him away, yet a smirk took the place of his glare quite quickly.
"Kitten's got claws, now does she?" He leaned forward, invading a bit of my personal space.
Though I was uncomfortable, he was not about to get away with calling me kitten. Being made fun of by some pompous demon was not about to slide with me, considering the rank that I was at.
"She'll use them if she has to, asshole." I spat back, glaring at him. A glimmer of amusement crossed his face, but I scowled back at him.
"Who's stopping you, kitten?" He leered at me then leaned back, apparently satisfied that I had stood up to him rather than cower in fear (I was shaking on the inside, but there's no way I'd let him know that).
I adjusted my bag, walking away to find the nearest bathroom so that I could cry silently and yell at myself for being so stupid as to provoke a demon.
It seemed I was in luck, my (e/c) catching sight of one soon after I had left the scene. As soon as I was inside, I locked myself in a stall, sinking down to the ground in a fetal position. Rocking myself back and forth, I tried not to think of what could have happened had I truly started something.
If a demon had the chance to use a deity as their blood bank, it would greatly increase their power, as well as form a sort of control over whoever they were using as their food. Their control over their poor victim meant that they could order them around as they pleased, with no resistance.
With the amount of power I had, it would be utter chaos if they got their fangs in me. Sighing, I unclenched my trembling hands. There was no way that I'd let them near me.A/N- well, that's just the intro. I hope you enjoyed! Feel free to comment, if you'd like.
