You know those moments when you're so concentrated you barely know what time it is? Exactly. I sat behind my desk and the only thing I had on my mind were the tough questions I tried to solve without knowing the answer because all my books were still empty. The only curtain was closed. Toulouse purred on my bed with her claws stuck in the fabric of the towel I wrapped her in. The only Light in the room came from the lamp on my desk top. I yawned and saw the empty cup of coffee to my right. I ran my index finger over my eyelashes only to catch the tears I recieved whenever I managed stay awake. How long was I awake? I pulled away from the notes with unreadable handwriting. This seemed familiar. I expressed my mood with my handwriting. The prettier the better I felt or the more awake I was.
"What's that smell?" I turned around, covered my nose and realised my bed was soaked in cat pee.
"Toulouse!" I whispered angerly. I stormed to the small animal and placed her on the floor. Immediately I grapped the dirty sheets and towel and ran downstairs. I bumped into Lucille and we both gasped in shock.
"OW!"
"What is that smell??" My mom covered her nose and gave a bitter look.
"Toulouse peed on my bed." I ran to the washer while my mom followed me.
"Eek, now I have to change. I only have two uniforms!" She pulled off her nurses outfit. As she changed and I looked for air freshener. When I only could find an aerosol meant for the toilet I ran back to my room. Almost choked in the chemical flower smell but managed to open my window and door so both the rediculous smells could eventually vanish.
"Wow. Wait. MOM!!" I screamed through the house.
"What?" She asked.
"What are you doing up this late?"
"Late? Siena, it's six in the morning!" I frose.
"Fuck." I muttered
"Language!!"
"Mom.. Erm.. I haven't.."
I walked to her bedroom where she checked herself in the mirror.
"Why are you up this early? I'm supposed to wake you around seven." I paused.
"About that. Ha ha.." I rubbed my eyes.
"I didn't go to bed yet." I hid behind my hands.
"Siena." My mom began dissapointed.
"You did not go to bed? But why? Don't tell me it's because you HAD to study?"
"I had to!"
"But not during the night! You don't want to become an insomniac, do you?"
"I lost track of time.. I didn't feel the urge to go bed so I didn't." I explained softly.
"Darling, that's not good for you. I don't want to see you to suffer from a burn out. You might end up falling asleep in class!" My mom said while she got ready.
"I know.. I'm sorry.. I'll make coffee and-"
"You are not going anywhere. You can't go to school like this." She crossed her arms.
"Mom! I have to entrance exams in only four days! I can't miss a thing." I complained.
"Don't be stubborn. You'll stay home and sleep. Set the alarm in about eight hours. When you wake up eat, clean yourself and begin to study again. You studied all night. You deserve a break." She lay her hand on my cheek. I sighed.
"Fine." I pounted. Toulouse cleaned herself in the corner of the room. Lucille hated when I pounted or even when I gave her a strange look. She believed her family was the most important thing in the world. She ran her thumb over my cheek.
