I rememer that  day so clearly, like it happened yesterday.

It was snowing, and there was lots of it, so much that the entire forest was coated in a blanket of snow and the icicle spears hanging from tall tree branches glistening in the cloudy sunlight, I  remembered how beautiful it was, like a white crystal garden.

I remember I was only seven years old, clasping onto my mother's hand,  wondering where she is taking me.

Whenever I asked her, her reply was: "Don't worry, we are only going for a walk, think of it as an adventure!"

I can clearly remember that wide smile she wore that day, a smile that was completely empty, like she had no emotions or did not care to feel anymore, and at the time, I could not figure out what it meant.

Then soon, up the pathway we walked for so long is a clearing and mother began to pick up the pace until we reached that clearing.

"Here we are, little one!" She exhales happily to me, "Mother, why are we here?" I asked her, "Don't worry, little one, I thought you might like this place!" She said cheerfully, and then I saw her expression change and the emotion in her eyes darkened.

"Little one, mother forgot something back at camp." She places a hand on my shoulder, "Be a darling and wait here until I am back, and don't go anywhere!" She says and before I could ask her anything, she was already on her way back, but that look she had in her eyes gave me chills as it had no emotions in it.

I remembered this day.

I remembered it was cold and white.

And I waited there for her to come back, and there were times where I wanted to go and look for her, but I told myself 'maybe she will be back any minute!' but I knew it has already been hours.

That day became darker and darker like my hope for her to return as the sun was setting.

It was on that day, I knew she was not coming back.

It was on that day, I knew that I have been abandoned in the freezing cold with no shelter or food, tossed away like some unwanted toy.

On that day, I felt like something inside me was awakened, I don't know if it was fear, instinct, determination, the will to survive or all of them together along with many other mixes emotions.

I knew that this will not be my last resting place, and I will prove to those, like my mother, who think I will die wrong.

Age 19: Current age

The memories of that day would occasionally repeat itself like a rift that triggers one's past, but I put that past to sleep, to never wake it up as it only leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

Over the years I became stronger and I had taught myself many things in order to survive in this forest.

The first was building a fire, fire meant warmth as well as life and it has many values from using it for light or for cooking meals.

Through the time I have been alone, the best thing that has happened to me during the years was meeting a tiny black wolf pup, the runt of its litter. When I found him,  he was wandering around a small river bed possibly hoping for a small meal and being a curious pup an all, he caught sight of me and to my surprise, he only wanted a play mate and to him, I looked like a willing participant.

I named him Kanwyre, as it describes him perfectly in a way and from that day we became inseparable, to the point that his pack saw me as one of their own and after seven years, Kanwyre had always helped me in many ways,  from hunting to foraging and today he's a beautiful large, black wolf that out grew his siblings and is now the current alpha of his pack, but he still sticks to me and I'm happy for that.
