things we lost in the fire - bastille

lowercase intended

sirens screamed all around luke as he ran down his block, sweat covered his palms as he sprinted towards the flashing red and blue in front of his home.

luke had told michael, his younger by 2 years boyfriend, to meet him at their favorite place that afternoon by 2:15.  when michael hadn't shown up to 'Grounded Coffee Shop' by 3:30 he began to worry and started walking towards his neighborhood to make sure his lovely small boyfriend was okay.  but when luke heard the screams and saw the flashing lights speed past him only to turn on his street, Alliny Circle, he began to run faster than he ever had.

luke physically felt his heart break when he finally stumbled upon the scene, breathing heavily.  the place where his boyfriends once beautiful home had sat was now burned to the ground.  he looked around frantically hoping to anyone in the world that the cliffords weren't in the house when this happened.  he hoped that karen was out shopping and daryl was at work late.  he wished so badly that willow and scarlett, michael's older twin sisters, were staying at a friends house last night to celebrate summer coming to a close and hadn't made it home yet.  luke prayed to whatever controlled his life that michael had left and was walking to 'Grounded Coffee Shop' right then and was just taking the long way, knowing it would annoy luke.

but luke's hopes were soon crushed when he saw the blonde of the two teenage girls he had learned to love like sisters being rolled out on gurneys, masks covering their faces.  his head was pounding as he saw the clifford parents walking out of the house, struggling to keep on their feet, and luke swore anyone in their town could hear his heart shatter when he saw the beautiful blonde fringe of his fifteen year old boyfriend sticking out of a sheet.  his pure body covered by a thin material that was almost the same color as mikey's beautiful milky white skin.

luke tried scrambling over to the family in which he loved so much, but was stopped by many strong men.  luke screamed louder than any siren could have as he fell to the ground sobbing his eyes out as the ambulance drove away, lights flashing in luke's eyes until everything went black and his head hit the concrete.

2 weeks later

michael had been in the hospital for two weeks, and he was in a coma.  luke didn't know what to do, this wasn't supposed to happen to boys like him.  luke was so young, he didn't know how to comprehend that the love of his life might never wake up.

luke teared up at the thought of losing michael, but quickly swiped under his eyes when a knock was sound on his door.  luke managed to croak out a come in before snuggling further into his bed, the place he had been in for the last 15 days.

his mother walked into the room looking at her son with sad eyes.  the bags were evident under his eyes and the redness rimming the blue inside of them made her want to cry.  she sat her hand lukes knee to which he ignored and continued to stare out the window.

"we are leaving luke, it's not good for you here.  i have found a place in London.  i don't want you here honey.  michael isn't going to get better luke, we need to get you out of here before you die of sadness." his mother said with a sad yet comforting tone.  luke ran to the bathroom and threw up due to the news that he would be leaving this town that he adored so much, and that he would be leaving the boy who he adored so much more.

atleast thats why luke thought he was throwing up, and that's what he assumed the reason was for the next two weeks that he threw up every morning.  luke thought he was sad and his body was physically breaking down.  what luke could've never imagined was that he was carrying two small bodies inside of his stomach that had a mix of not only his DNA, but also that of the boy he loved so much who was sure to never wake up.
