Gretchen walked into school. A school she hated because it always left her feeling alone. the exact reason she turned to drugs. That and she's been in love with two girls for the past year. No one knew she was gay. which made it harder however it was 1969 being homosexual was not okay.

She knew she didn't stand a chance to date Jehoaddan. Not only did she have really religious family, but Gretchen was also up against Devon and apparently Jehovah. She couldn't beat God. Then there was Maran who also had a religious family, but Maran could do better in the friend department than being friends with Jordan and Simon in her opinion. Which made her chances with her way worse because she was worse than in her opinion two really immature boys.

She grumbled, dropped the cigarette, stomping on it with her boot because in school you couldn't smoke. What a stupid rule. As soon as she stepped into school she tugged her leather jacket tighter around her middle because god forbid they see the small rainbow on her shirt. She had a dark and tough exterior to hold up in front of her fellow classmates. With her bag slung on one shoulder she stumbled her way through the school to find homeroom.

Room 123. Ms.Buzzwell. Health/Music Class. Gretchen had seen her homeroom teacher around before and was partially repulsed by all the colors and cheery moods that Mrs. Buzzwell was known for. This year she could tell would be torture.  She found her seat in the back corner and watched kids file in. first row consisted of Simon, Jordan and Gaelynn. Then in front of her sat Tylen, Debbie, Maran and Devon. Then the most shocking thing happened; Jehoaddan sat right next to her and gave her a smile. A freaking smile. Then on Jehoaddans other side was some blonde nerd named Peyton. A nerd who shockingly in front of the class like normal nerds did.

"Hi class!" and in response Gretchen rolled her eyes as Jehoaddan smiled and exclaimed, "Hello Ms. Buzzwell."

Gretchen looked briefly at Jehoaddan, she never understood how one person could have so much happiness inside of them. She looked away before Jehoaddan could catch her. Gretchen mentally kicked herself for so pitifully pining.

Jehoaddan looked over at Gretchen. She was well aware the girl next to her had a part of her that was  better than she let on. Or that could just be her hope. Many people feared because of her bullying, but Jehoaddan was never scared nor intimidated. A lot of people cowered away and would never willingly sit near her like Jehoaddan had. Then again Jehoaddan did her best to see the good in everyone.

Sometimes she wondered if she had a chance at being let in as a friend, but Gretchen was a very closed off book. She also rarely had issues with making first moves for friendships, but this situation was weird as much as she wasn't afraid of Gretchen like others were but she couldn't seem to form words.
