The young adult sighed as he cooked. Today was the fifth anniversary since his lover had left him. The one person he knew that he could ever love that would love him back. If only he had been able to stay, everything would be great.
Don't get him wrong; Yugi loved his life right now. Despite the fact that both his lover and grandfather - the only family he had left - were gone, everything else was perfectly fine.
He had inherited the Kame Game Store, which was flourishing now that the King of Games was running it. His best friends, Joey and Tristan, helped whenever they had the time. Teá had gotten the chance to go to a Dance School in America, but still called once or twice a week at least. Mai and all the other awesome duelists he met over time still traveled the world and participated in tournaments.
He was happy for his friends, but at the same time he was envious. Joey and Seto - after finally realizing that the hostility they held towards each other was actually love - had gotten together; Joey even lived at the mansion now. Duke and Tristan had also gotten together, Tristan helping out Duke's store whenever he wasn't helping out Yugi. Ryou and Malik had gotten together and moved to Egypt together to be with Ishizu and Rishid. Serenity and Mai had also gotten together and Serenity has been traveling with Mai ever since. Hell, even Tea had gotten over Atem and found a nice guy to be with.
And here he was, with no lover.
Yugi felt a pull on his pants leg and looked down, spotting two children with purple hair each holding their own plushie he smiled. "Good morning, boys. Where are your brothers?"
The older of the two sighed. "They're still sleeping like rocks, papa. Do you want me to go wake them up?" He asked.
Yugi smiled and nodded. "If you could. Thanks you, Yuri." Yugi bent down and kissed Yuri's hair. The child smiled a bit before running off to wake his brothers. Yugi turned to the other child. "Yuto, could you please set the table?" Yuto smiled and set down his plushie before grabbing the materials he needed and leaving the room.
After he left, two more children ran in, glomping Yugi. Yugi nearly fell over but managed to keep his balance. He chuckled. "Good morning, Sleepyheads. How are you this morning, Yuya? Yugo?" He asked his final two children.
The two smiled up at him. Yuya was the one to answer. "We're great, papa! We had a wonderful sleep!" Yugo smiled in agreement.
Yugi smiled, ruffling their hair. "Good. Now go wait in the dining room with your brothers, okay?" The two nodded before running off, Yugi smiling after them.
That was another good thing in his life that he was happy for. After Atem had left, he picked these four off the streets. They had been beaten by a duelist who liked to use his hands instead of cards. Yugi had dueled him, and beat him within a couple turns. The guy wasn't even a challenge compared to his other opponents. After that, he had adopted the four, learning that they ran from an orphanage they were sent to after watching their biological parents get murdered in front of them.
Yugi smiled as he remembered their faces when he said he would adopt them. It was the first time they had smiled and Yugi had fallen in love with those smiles right away. They didn't even dislike him when he told them about his sexuality and the story of their other father. Instead they just smiled and requested more stories of the ancient pharaoh.
And Yugi had answered their requests.
The adult was pulled from his thoughts as the pancakes finished. He placed them on the plate with the other pancakes before turning off the oven and moving the hot pan to a cool burner. He then grabbed the plate and walked into the dining room, freezing at what he saw.
All four of his children sat in front of the shrine he made for Atem, praying to the man they knew as their other father.
Yugi smiled. "Since when have you guys prayed to Atem?"
The four turned around before Yugo smiles. "We've been doing this since you began telling stories of Dad. Plus we see you praying in the middle of the night with tears pouring down your face. We want to pray to dad too!"
Yugi was shocked. He placed the pancakes down on the table and kneeled in between his children with a smile. "Then shall we pray together every morning? I'm sure that your father would love if all five of his loves prayed to him." Yugi said.
The four nodded with smiles before going back to praying. Yugi joined them, putting his hands together and allowing a single tear to fall.
'We will always love you, Atem. Now and forever.'
