Anora: A distant planet

It was almost time for daybreak in Anora. The first of the suns in the binary system that the planet was orbiting, would come out in the next few minutes. Since it was summer time in the northern hemisphere, the temperatures remained around 35 degrees celsius during the day, and some warm 26 during the night, which allowed Anorians to enjoy pleasant and starry nights. The planet, compared to Earth, had a different development from ours. Since they coulduse psychic links, their technological advances were discovered a lot earlier than in Earth's history, and due to the thought commutation, and the Larian conquest, the ecological system had been preserved extensively.

Anora was a planet with a lot of green areas, maybe a little similar to Earth's carboniferous period. Its cities would rise up into urban centers that were relatively small, giving respect to the ecosysem around them. The energy mostly used was solar, especially for the cities' maintenance and consumption, but there were nuclear fusion reactors for industrial consumption. This would result in cities no longer than 30 km in diameter, rising up into the sky with lots of buildings, green areas and some minor industrial operations around them. Furthermore, there were at least 5 cities around the planet that had space ports, allowing the space travel of several types of ships, as well as landing to perform repairs and other activities. They had mining operations, but as an interesting note, all of them were underground, with drones and remote operators. They had been able to reach a level of symbiotic development with nature, using fertile lands to its best potential, through crop rotation and optimization of the crop process.

The major difference with Earth was, perhaps, the lack of political divisions, as in the lack of countries. All anorians worked and produced in a planetary level. There were no fights between beliefs, ideologies, or any other major cause for divisions similar to Earth's. This was due, in part, to the Larian mind collective, which did not allow individualistic thoughts, and had imposed a single unique religion throughout its planets, Ancientology, that revered the Ancients that developed intelligent life in several planets almost like gods. In their belief, any race capable of modifying entire planets to develop a particular race must have divine power.

Anorians had a genetical diversity similar to Earth's diversity, though their skins would show reddish, greenish, yellowish or blueish tones, depending on the area of the planet they lived on. It was an adaptation form similar to a chameleon's, but not as efficient as the lizard. As a matter of fact, most of them were able to change the color at will, and a few individuals were able to control their "camouflage" onto specific patterns, generating figures similar to tattoos. These people were generally a part of the intellectual caste of the planet, since they could spend their lives studying and growing as "individuals", always under the influence of the Larian mind collective.

The average height of an Anorian was 1,70m; but the variety was as large as Earth's. Their bodies were slimmer though, since the bone density of Anorians was slightly lower than earthlings, since the planet's gravity was 0,9 times the Earth's. Anorians were capable of living extensively more than humans, reaching up to three times a normal earthling's life span, in other words, approximately 300 Earth years in a natural way, being able to extend that time up to three times through gene therapy, going up to the impressive amount of 900 Earth years anmont the eldest anorians. The greatest discovery of the Ancients was the genetical capacity of anorians to receive psychic communications, something only the Ancients had before their visit to Anora. The ancients isolated the genetical code for this characteristic, and later on implanted it to most species they encountered afterwards, reaching up to Laria, the conquerors. Larians, in turn, were able to "weaponize" the neutral aspect of psych coms to transform them into a crowd control medium, through psychic suggestion, many years after the Ancients disappeared from the history books.

But, as with most mental training, there was a problem. The psych suggestion performed by Laria generated a rejection in the mind of the receiver, and a few individuals were able to process this rejection and break free from the suggestion link, leaving an "awakened" state that was quite confusing, as if the individual had been sleepwalking for many years. Larians had a way to counter this effect, and most of the times, they were successful since they were able to re-establish the connection between 4 to 6 seconds after it was brooken. But just a few individuals were strong enough to resist the reassimilation. The first to awaken was S'lene's great grandfather, Ingus, who was a part of the intellectual caste of the planet. He was a formal student of Ancientology. His awakening was a bit abrupt, he didn't know where he was standing. In an attempt to carry on with his life, he went back to his house, only to realize his life wasn't really his. So he took what he could, and entered one of the anorian jungles, Thaum jungle, in the northern hemisphere of the planet, right in the middle of the Kallem continent. Since then, he had been reaching out to these awakened people he was able to identify, and had gathered them to generate a resistance to the Larian "oppression". Of course, in his mind, he didn't really know if it was an oppressive state, since all anorians seemed happy with their lives, but the main issue was that they had no free will to decide what to do with their lives. They were, effectively, Larian's slaves.

For many years, Ingus reached out to his family members that awakened, since he had isolated the fact of being an awakened to a genetical mutation that happened in less tha 7% of the anorian population. This would mean that less than 7% of the entire planet could be a part of the rebellion by natural means, considering that Larians were not able to reassimilate them into the collective. Ingus designed a genetical scanner to identify the individuals with this genetical mutation, and kept them under observation. Once they suffered the link break, a resistance group would capture him, and inject a serum that activated the expression of that gene, breaking the link in a permanent way, at least until the larians captured the individuals again and put them into a reassimilation program. Actually, the rebels had planned 5 major attacks to the Larian mind collective so far, which was located in the planet capital Aksach. The five attacks ended up being a failure, and with many casualties for the rebels, including S'lene's great grandfather in the last attack. Garan, S'lenes grandfather, had been reassimilated in the fourth attack, and her father Raishe, had lost his life when she was still a toddler, in the third attack. S'lene was the first anorian of a new generation to be born "freely", meaning, with no connection to the Larian mind collective.

With the casualties suffered, the rebellion did not have a headmaster, nor the people that had created the artifacts that were being used against the Larians. The rebellion was on the verge of being wiped out. S'lene, seeing that they were between a rock and a hard place, decided to use the quantic-psychic communicator developed by Ingus from the blueprints of the probes sent thousands of years ago to the different star systems by the Protolarian empire. These probes were able too communicate almost instantly their position and probing results, as well as create a wormhole that would connect the probe with a fixed temple of the Protolarian Ancientology. One of these temples was located in the center of Thaum, the jungle where the central base of the rebels was located. A strike of luck, as Ingus had said, who had used the probes to find life in other planets.

In his search, Ingus found a small planet, in the Sol system, where there were indications of intelligent life, but no indications of contact by external lifeforms. Unfortunately, the probe that had discovered the "small blue marble" had been left with little energy to open up the wormhole, so he had to wait until the local lifeforms developd the technologies needed to energize the proble. The issue was that the probe had been orbiting the planet for over 13.000 years, gathering data. By the time Ingus discovered the probe, humanity was still in the middle of the agrcultural expansion. It wouldn't be until 350 years later when S'lene, being a young anorian of 55 years of age, would receive answer of the energy levels of the probe, when it activated for a few seconds and sent signals that were received by the anorian rebels.

Curiously, the Larian empire had lost the register of these probes, since they passed thorugh a civil war where many leaders fought over the planetary control for hundreds of years. This is the reason why some scholars divide the empire in the Protolarian empire, the former organization with many leaders, and the Larian empire, the current single headed controlling collective. As a way to eliminate any trace of the protolarian empire, the current empire decided to bury and forget many artifacts, locations and people of that time, and they had been very effective at that, since there was almost no information about the Protolarian empire, except in a few very heavily guarded locations around the empire. Or so the Larians believed, since in Anora, a jewel of the Protolarian empire, there were several information cubes, that had many projects stored within their memory banks. This was something the current empire had not taken into consideration, since their control over Anora was almost complete, and they felt it was not necessary to comb the planet for artifacts. "A huge mistake made by the Larians", Ingus had said to S'lene, when she was old enough to understand it. A mistake that was playing in favor of the rebels now.

All of S'lene's hopes were deposited in that probe that had been activated. If the data gathered by the probe proved to be true, the species that had developed in that planet was one that had no influence by the galactic empires, so it would fit perfectly for the rebellion's goals. Their plan was to make them open the portal, ask a group of humans to come to Anora, and eliminate the Larian mind collective in Aksach, freeing the entire planet in the process. A dream that, in her prayers, was ever closer...
