"I don't want to be me anymore." She tells him as she grips her can of beer tightly; not stopping until it makes that crinkling sound she knows he hates so much. She slightly smirks to herself when he flinches away from her.
Zack itches to ask her what else she's thinking but knows she'll never tell him. Daisy's always been one for mysteries, tells him it's the only way to keep things from being boring around here. Though Zack could never find it boring with Daisy around.
But instead of saying all the things he wishes he could, Zack snatches the empty beer can from her hands and settles it on the bench beside them.
A tiny smile makes its way onto his face as he laughs humorlessly at her small squeak of annoyance. Zack sighs as he slowly pulls the cigarette up between his lips, inhales for a second, before puffing out a huge breath of smoke into the warm air effortlessly.
The lonely pair silently watch the smoke span out and evaporate into nothing, lost in their own dangerous late night thoughts. Though not too long later she quickly taps Zack on his hand urgently (needing a rescue from her own mind) and Zack hands over the cigarette without resistance.
It's a system they've worked out that hasn't failed them yet.
Zack silently brings his hand up to run through his hair slowly before he turns back to Daisy with a tired smile fixated onto his lips. Daisy stares back at him expectantly.
"None of us do, Dais."
*sorry it's really short. this is only a prologue of sorts and i don't know if i should continue or not. anyway tell me what you think c: criticism is welcomed*
