Brendon's POV
It was 2am and I couldn't sleep. The adrenaline from the concert I just had is still giving me a rush. I had nothing else to do because I've already done everything I can in the hotel room and I'm pretty hungry.
I decided to go outside and enjoy the silent streets of San Francisco at night. The cold wind embraced my body and I immediately regretted wearing a t-shirt. I wanted warmth and I wanted it now. So, I walked faster to find any restaurant or café open at this time. After a few minutes of searching, I found a café that had like two or three people inside.
I made my way inside the café and there was an elder man sitting on one corner of the café and a woman around my age at the register. I looked up at the menu board, trying to decide what I want. I was interrupted from my thoughts when the girl in front of me bumped into me.
"Oops, I'm so sorry. I didn't see you there."
I looked at the girl who bumped into me and I could recognize those beautiful brown eyes anywhere.
"Y/N?"
"Brendon...?"
I felt my smile go from ear to ear and I could not be happier that I finally found her after ten years. Fuck the coffee, I just found the love of my life after ten years!
You see, Y/N is the love of my life and the one that got away and I never planned on losing her or letting her go. But, like how most stories end, she couldn't put up with our relationship because I was never there when she needed me the most. It's not that I didn't care about her, I wanted to be there for her... with her. But, it's difficult when you're a thousand miles away from her and all you can do is repeatedly say, "I'm sorry, I wish I was there with you right now." She eventually got tired of always being alone and she said she wanted someone who will always be there for her no matter what. I mean, I wanted to be that someone and I tried so hard to be that someone, but it's difficult.
"Brendon, hi! Why don't we sit down and catch up? It's been too long."
She walked over to a table near the window and I followed right behind her. She placed her coffee down on the table and sat down. I sat down on the seat right across her and boy, she was as beautiful as I remember. Her beautiful, dark brown hair that just flowed down to her shoulders, her beautiful brown eyes that I could just drown in, and her beautiful smile that always sent me on cloud nine.
"So, Brendon... I hear that you're pretty successful now. I mean, I always see you on magazines and hear you on the radio. I know I'm pretty late, but congrats, Bren. I always knew you could do it."
She flashed me a warm smile and I did that as well. Her smile just melted my heart.
"Thank you, Y/N. I appreciate it."
She smiled and looked down at her coffee and took a sip.
"Um... what about you? How have you been doing these past years, Y/N?"
She made eye contact with me and she gave me a small smile before she started talking.
"Oh, well... there's been so much going on these past years."
"It's okay, I have plenty of time," I gave her a smile and she looked down at her coffee again.
"Well, I graduated medical school four years ago and I've been a pediatrician for four years now."
I smiled at her, looking at her with so much happiness because that's all she has ever wanted to be since I knew her. She's been telling me nonstop about her dream to become a pediatrician because she's always so passionate about helping others and she just loves kids so much.
"I always knew that you'd live your dream."
She gave me another smile and continued on with her story.
"And, I married this wonderful man five years ago and we have the most beautiful baby girl. She just turned two last month."
Wait... what?
She's married?
I looked at her ring finger and there it was... a diamond ring.
Funny, because that's the same diamond ring I was supposed to give her as a promise ring.
I kind of went into shock and I couldn't hear anything else until she broke me out of my own thoughts.
"Bren, are you okay?"
"Yeah, what were you saying?"
"I asked if you wanted to see my baby girl."
I knew this was going to kill me, but I agreed anyway.
She took out her phone and she showed me pictures of her baby girl. And, she was just as beautiful as her mother. She had her beautiful brown eyes that could make any man swoon and her little nose that I always adored.
"She's beautiful, Y/N... just like her mother."
The tears started prickling and I couldn't cry in front of her, no. I just can't. I stood up and fixed my shirt and I offered her a hand to shake.
"Well, thanks for your time, Y/N. It was really great seeing you again. I have to go, my bandmate's are probably looking for me."
She shook my hand and she seemed hurt at first, but then she quickly changed into a happy face.
"Oh, sure. Thanks also, Bren. I hope to see you soon."
I smiled at her and she smiled back and I quickly went out of the café and started walking back to the hotel.
The tears that were forming started streaming down my face. I couldn't stop replaying that moment when she told me that she's married. My heart shattered into a billion pieces with no way to put it back together. My heart broke not because I don't her to be happy, because that's all I want for her. I want her to be happy. But, my heart broke because ten years ago, I pictured somebody else asking how her life is and she would tell them about me.
