Chapter I
Burnt flowerI was a normal nine year old girl in New York, until about seven years ago. My mother, Liliana, was found burned to death in her own home. I was there, running in the field behind my house. I turned because I thought I heard something unusual and I am glad I did because one of mother's flowers was on fire. Her favorite lily burning to the ground. I swiftly went to our well and put the fire out. I dashed to the house to tell my mom, but as I stared into the window, I saw a blaring fire there in my mom's room. I had never felt so much dread in my life. The police and the scientists did not see any evidence of how he fire could have started. They had to put in the case as a horrible accident. I never thought of it as an accident though. I knew there was more to it.
Ever since mom died my father Marcus, has not said a word to anyone about the catastrophe. I wondered why and concluded that he would get over whatever he's trying to hold back.I already had my own things to worry about anyway, considering I was going to turn sixteen the next day. I wanted to get a phone this year which he promised me. I wake up to my dad giving his 'sweet' voice so I knew something was up. I heard "Lucia, my sweetheart, wake up." This startled me, considering what sort of thing he might try to throw at me. I jolted awake and saw a lady dressed in gold with a perfect face and perfect hair except half of her was scorched. I saw her mouth utter,"Sweetheart, wake up. It's me." But before I could respond I realized, it was my mother.
