Finding them wasn't too hard, they left a decent blood trail from the last attack. I hid around the corner of an old brick building, the scent of blood filled my nose along with the smell of other wolves. This is it. I smiled at the anticipation of a fight, a fight to the death. I turned the corner and stopped at a side entrance, I could've knocked, but I chose otherwise. I kicked the door inwards, Sebastian stood in the middle of a circle, a corpse laid at his feet. A corpse with amber hair.

"How did you find us?"

"Quite easily. What happened to him?"

"He failed his leader."

"What? How?"

"He didn't kill you."

"He never had a chance. Didn't mean he had to die."

Whispers erupted, the word 'shadow' came up multiple times. Sebastian growled them into silence, "leave and I'll let you live."

"Not a chance."

He growled again, but stopped short, then smiled wickedly.

"You're father was just as stubborn."

Ouch. The pain in the void of heart revealed itself, finally, some answers.

"What do you mean?"

"He refused to give up leadership. He was filthy. A disgrace. He married and conceived a child with a whore of a human."

My hands turned into fists, the wolf wanted to get out and rip his throat out. I couldn't let it. I had to show I was more than a killing machine. The pack members whispered to each other, about what, I wasn't sure. Sebastian smiled again, "And look at what the result was. A pathetic pup, without a pack to go to."

My nails dug into my palms as I replied through clenched teeth, "I might be a pup, but I have a pack to go to. I challenge you, for the title of pack master."

Sebastian's smile disappeared, "You don't understand the rules, pup. You need to be supported in your challenge, and I don't think anyone will support you."

"I will." A man with shaggy black hair and stubble on his chin and cheeks. With him, a woman with red hair down to her waist also stood up, "As will I."

All the pack members stood up, one after the other, willing to support me in my challenge. Now it was my turn to smile, "Name the time and place."

Sebastian glared at the rest of the pack, "You will all regret this."

"Not if I kill you first."

"The clearing in the centre of the woods. Tomorrow. Midnight."

"A full moon. Should be interesting."

"Prepare to die young pup." Sebastian walked past me, but stopped at the broken door, "Oh and say hello to your dog of a father and your whore of a mother."

"Now it's my turn to tell you to leave. Before I rip your throat out."

He smiled and left the building, his filthy scent lingered in the room. I looked at the other members, they all bowed their heads.

"Thank you. I know how difficult that May have been."

The man who stood up first stepped forward, "I knew your father, Angeline. And your mother. They were good people. Loyal people."

I felt tears come to my eyes, "Thank you."

The woman with the red hair also stepped forward, "We've been awaiting your return. We knew you would come back."

"How? I didn't even know what I was until I came here."

"Because, you're your fathers daughter. You're the Shadow's Heir."

........

The black haired man, Damien, took me to the clearing. The rest of the pack members said it was against the rules for them to go, only one other member could accompany me, I chose Damien, so I could find out more about my parents.

"You knew both my parents?"

"Yes. Charles was your father. Your mother was Maria."

"What were they like?"

I saw him smile, "Your father and I were friends since we were children. He was a born leader. His fur was as black as night and his wolf as strong as anything I've ever seen. But he was also kind and gentle. When he became pack leader, he ordered me his second. All he ever wanted was what was best for the pack."

"And my mother?"

His face seemed to soften when he thought about her, "Your mother came from France. She wanted to see what life was like outside her home. Your father thought she was the most beautiful creature on this earth."

"He told her of his world?"

"Yes. He didn't want to keep anything from her." Damien sighed, "They were meant to be together."

"You loved her. Didn't you?"

He looked away from me.

"Hey, I don't care. It's none of my business."

He sighed, "Your a spitting image of her, you know?"

"Really?"

"Right down to the birth mark on your neck."

I touched my neck, a soft brown oval was situated to the right of my wind pipe. Now it's time for the big question.

"What happened to them?"

Damien sighed again, "I knew you'd ask that. No one supported Sebastian's challenge for leadership, so he decided to take it by force. He abducted your mother. And you."

Took a deep breath, "What did my father do?"

"Charles and I, we went after him. He was in the very clearing I'm taking you to."

"He's a sick bastard." I felt tears filling my eyes again. Damien nodded in agreement, "Charles wanted me to stay hidden, so I could take you and Maria when I had a chance. Your father decided to come out of the darkness and attempted to bargain with Sebastian. I found you amongst the bushes in the trees, in Maria's arms...."

He trailed off.

"She was already dead, wasn't she?"

He nodded, "Sebastian slashed the artery in her thigh, she bled out. By the look of the blood trail, she tried to get you away from him."

I couldn't stop the tears from rolling down my face, "And my father?"

"Sebastian tricked him. He said that you and your mother was tied up behind a tree, when his back was turned, Sebastian took him out."

"I did I get away?"

"I took you. I sent you to France with friends of the pack. Sister Rosemary and Sister Grace."

I looked up at him, "They knew about me?"

"Why do you think I worked so hard to get you here. They knew it was time for your wolf to mature. That it was time for you to come back to the pack."

We almost reached the clearing, I turned to him, "You saved my life. I owe you everything."

He shook his head, "I loved your mother. Your father was my brother. From the moment the life left his eyes, I promised I would protect you no matter what."

Than he chuckled.

"What?"

"It's kinda ironic. I said I'd protect you and yet I still supported you in attending your possible death."

I placed my hand on his shoulder and looked into his eyes, "When this is over, I want you to be my second. My father trusted you. I trust you. I will make Sebastian pay with his life."

Damien smiled slightly, "there it is. That part of your father that refused to back down. Your mother had it too."

I smiled and turned to the clearing. Ready to kill Sebastian.
