The summer heat beamed down on me as the sun peaked in the middle of the afternoon. Beads of sweat slid down my neck as I admired the cloudless sky above me. There was something eerily perfect about this day, and I could already feel the sense of adventure taking over my entire body. I hated to admit that it was because I was shaking with excitement about spending a few months on the road with my rockstar brother and his band. However, I couldn't deny that it was a golden opportunity to find myself and travel the world for the sake of music. Well, 'the world' is a little dramatic considering this tour was only across the United States. But consider this, a girl from a small town had someone in her family make it, and I mean really make it. Why wouldn't I reap the benefits?
Honking knock I snatch my dingy brown duffle bags off of the floor as I see their tour bus pulling into my front yard. loaded my bags onto my rockstar brother's tour bus. My palms were sweating as I get even more anxious by the minute. I've met the band before, but it had been so long ago. I haven't seen them in forever and I doubt they remember me either.
"Justin! It's about time man! You ready for this tour?"
The man who did most of the shouting had dark hair and a deep voice. He was taller than Justin and bit chunkier compared to his bony legs.
"You must be Jasmine," he greeted me, "I'm Jack."
"Hi Jack," I replied while shaking his hand.
"Welcome to the best tour bus you'll ever be on!"
I laughed at his friendliness. He was rather goofy, but I knew we'd get along just fine. My nerves were starting to ease and I relaxed.
"Want me to introduce you to everyone?" Justin asked.
"Well obviously."
He flicked my nose and walked me towards the back to introduce me to the others.
I practically ran to keep up with him, he was moving faster than I'd expected.
"Aye guys!"
All I saw was Justin throwing his arms in to the air and I laughed. He seemed so at home. So happy.
Cheers were flooded throughout the room and I held my breath and followed him into the small area.
In an instant all eyes were on me.
"Well everyone, this is my little sister, Jasmine."
I wave and stick my hands in my back pockets. Well this is awkward.
"Hi Jasmine, I'm Gabe."
I reach my hand out for a handshake and he rejects it.
"No. You're gonna have to learn on this bus we hug here!"
He picked me up and wrapped me up in a bear hug. I laughed at his sudden actions and he out me down gently.
"Welcome! I hope you enjoy being on tour because there's No way out."
I laugh slightly and give him a big smile.
"That won't be an issue I'm Sure."
Justin cleared his throat and gave him a stern look. Gabe put his hands up in defense and steered clear of my path. I shoot Justin a look, but his attention was already on someone else. He was sitting on the corner of the couch and he had his sharp green orbs on me. I flinched. His gaze was....intimidating.
"I don't even see the point of having a girl on the bus anyway, it's stupid."
Well then..
"Come on Kellin, we already talked about this."
He gets up from the couch and brushes past me without making eye contact. Ouch.
"Wait here, he's just cranky."
Justin leaves the room and follows after him. Gabe was sitting on the couch opposite to where Kellin sat so I joined him.
"Don't worry about him," he says, "Kellin can be an occasional dick."
I sigh and nod my head in agreement. How can someone show such hatred to a person they don't know?
"He'll warm up to you."
"I hope so," I say with a smile.
He smiled back at me and Justin slid back through the curtain that led to this room. He was getting ready to talk, but he froze with eyes looking back and forth from me to Gabe.
"Relax. She can socialize. You won't lose your brother of the year award I promise."
I stifle a laugh by biting on my lip and another boy enters the room.
"Dude I have to take a massive-"
His eyes land straight on me and try to hold in my laughs a lot harder. He smiled awkwardly and waved.
"Hi, I'm Jesse."
"I'm Jasmine." I say with a small laugh.
His cheeks turn bright red and his eyes fall to the floor.
"Well," he finally continued, "I have some uh things to do. Excuse me."
He left the room and I burst into laughter. Justin shakes his head and laughs with me.
"Can I have some water?" I ask.
"Yeah there's some in the fridge in the other room."
I stand up from the couch and walk into the other room in my quest to find the fridge. Ahh there it is. I half run to the fridge and open it. There's waters, orange juice, and red bulls. Hmm I think I'll have a red bull. I grab it and close the fridge only to find Kellin standing behind me.
He grabs the red bull from my hands and rolls his eyes.
"This is mine."
"Actually I grabbed it so it's mine."
I snatch it back from him and he gets closer into my face.
"I paid for it," he spat, "It's mine."
He snatched the red bull back and he didn't release his gaze from mine. I stood there fuming and he didn't seem to be phased. It only made him more upset that I didn't break away from his harsh glare.
"Jasmi-"
Both of our heads turn in unison to find Justin watching us.
"Is everything okay here?"
I turn back to Kellin and his eyes are on me with that same death stare.
"Yeah. Everything is fine," I say not breaking from his gaze.
Kellin huffs and storms out of the bus. I close my eyes slightly and a tear escapes. I can hear footsteps coming closer to me and then an arm around my shoulders.
I pull away quickly.
"I'm fine. It's just angry tears. Where's the bathroom?"
"It's back there. The very last door to your right."
"Thanks."
I make my way through the bus and I finally find the bathroom. Once inside I lock the door and I sit on the toilet seat and cry.
