Aunt Brenda came into my room and throws back the curtains.
The sunlight quickly crashes into the room all over me. I groan.
"Good morning," Aunt Brenda says in a sing song voice. Her happy persona only annoys me more.
What time is it?
"Time to get up for school." She comes around to the bed and nudges my body.
I only try to bury my face deeper in my pillow.
"Olivia Hemming, if you don't get your butt out of that bed, you're going to regret it."
I turn away from her, hoping she'll catch the hint. Clark would never wake me at this hour. I'm a night owl. Daylight is bad.
Aunt Brenda's footsteps recede. I sigh and snuggle deeper into my bed. Heavier footsteps invade my room once again.
"Last warning, Olivia."
I try to make my breathing sound heavier. She chuckles before a loud splash hits me. I scream and thrash in my bed. I topple off the bed onto the floor. Hurried footsteps come up the stairs.
"What happened I heard...screaming?" Uncle Clint walks into the room.
He begins laughing hysterically. I glare at him.
"Why?" I moan and rub my face clean.
Aunt Brenda only shrugs. "I warned you several times. Now, hurry up and get ready so you can catch the bus."
I frown.
"You can look at me like that all you want to, but if you miss that bus, missy, you'll regret it." She walks out of my room.
Uncle Clint, red in the face, looks at me with a strained serious face.
"Don't." I hobble to my bathroom with soaking wet clothes, grudgingly and get ready for today.
I wet my hair, giving it a wavy look and dress in v-neck tank with skinny jeans. Of course I couldn't forget my boots. After adding the finishing touches to my look, I'm proud of myself. I never dressed myself outside of hoodies and leggings before.
I have to admit.
I look amazing.
"Olivia!" Aunt Brenda calls.
I quickly grab my purse and run downstairs. I'm almost out the door when Aunt Brenda tells me to have something for breakfast. I settle for an apple and run out of the house.
It would've been wise to ask where I'm supposed to be catching the bus. I run to the end of the driveway and look both directions of the dirt road.
Kara and Jonas stand between both of our houses.
"Kara!" I yell.
She looks over to me and waves.
I wave back, still rooted to my spot.
"Well, come on!" She laughs.
I hustle over to them and smile.
"Well, good morning. Olivia, right?" She smiles.
"Yeah. I wasn't sure where to find the bus. I ran out before asking." I hitch my bag higher onto my shoulder. I bit into my apple and awkwardly try to catch the juice streaming from the bite.
"Yeah," she drags out with a laugh, "that would've been valuable information. Excited for your first day?"
"Actually, I'm really nervous. I haven't been to a public school in years."
