Firstly, I want to get things straight. Yes, I don’t like graveyards (now) but no I’m not a coward so please don’t think I am.

Secondly, I want to point out something. My iPod died! DIED! I even tried switching it on and off again, charging it, EVERYTHING! It literally broke the moment the song started playing. Make any sense to you? Because it didn’t make much sense to me. Maybe I’ll go and get it checked by an apple genius….

Now, on we go.

When I got home (which took me all of 5 seconds) I knew there was something wrong. My mum works from home as an accountant, my dad’s an electrician and obviously my brothers in college. I opened the door and shouted to my mum but there wasn’t any answer. It didn’t matter too much for me I knew she’d still be in bed so she was obviously asleep, right? Nope. The curtains were wide open, the bed made and her pyjamas where on the floor in a heap which is normal. Well, I say normal, to some it is but not to me because I know how lazy my mum is which tells me she should be in bed.

Next I checked her office, a tiny room in our garage. We converted the garage 2 or 3 years ago when mum started her job. Now it’s a lovely room carpeted with fluffy purple carpet that tickles your feet. There’s a huge desk with two apple macs and a plush black desk chair that has a heated seat, a small fridge stocked with cans of coke and chocolate (but don’t tell my dad he doesn’t know yet) and a two seated black sofa. It’s one of my favourite rooms in our house, but today I wished I hadn’t gone it there. As you can tell my mum wasn’t there and I couldn’t think of anywhere else she'd be. Then it came to me. Ah ha technology! So I pulled out my phone, found her number and pressed call. ‘Unknown number’ flashed across the screen. Well that was pretty odd it had worked fine the day before.

That’s when I noticed the note. If you hadn’t seen the room before you’d never notice that something could be there. Poking out the wall just above the desk was a door in the wall. It had always been there but since we refurbished the garage, it blended in so much all you noticed was the handle.

But I saw it easily. When I saw it I knew it was from my mum because she’s the only one who knows about it. On the other hand, why would she tuck a note there? There isn’t much point. So I took the letter of the wall and read thought it twice just to make sure I read it probably. This is what it said:

Kitty, this is urgent.  I’ve had to leave. I might not be back for some time. The next time I see you, may be years away but your dad, brother and me do love you. Good bye
