I was five years old when the cracking happened, but i still remember it like it was yesterday.
I was awoken by a deafening boom and earthquake. I hid in the closet in a panic having never been in an earthquake before. I should have died that night; a large piece of rubble from the ceiling came hurdling toward me. I screamed but it passed right through me, hitting the floor under me. I tried to open the door to get out but my hand passed through the handle. I stared at my hand confused, my 5 year old brain unable to figure out what was happening as my house continued to collapse around me.
I cried for my parents, but they didn't come. Then the wall came down on top of me. I screamed again, but once more it passed right through me. The confusion and stress of the situation caused me to pass out. When I woke later, to find the entire neighborhood in ruins, no houses were left standing. When I couldn't see any survivors from where I stood, I started walking.
