-Flash back to when it all began-
*BOOM*
*CRASH*
"GET YOUR CHILDREN TO THE SAFE HOUSE!" A soldier yelled.
"MOVE. MOVE. MOVE!" Yelled another.
"Sweetheart we don't have time to look at what is happening. Now let's go." Your mom said and grabbed you and your little brother. Next thing you knew, you were underground in the safe house. "Sargent Gale, get this family to unit eleven." A commander said. "Yes sir." He saluted and helped your mom, your brother and lastly, you. He took you all to unit eleven of the safe house. Your father had passed away when you were only three, from cancer.
"Y/N, honey. Are you okay?" Your mother asks. "Yeah. I'm fine." You say giving her a reassuring smile. "You have been staring into space and I got worried." She said. "Don't worry. What is going on up there?" You ask. "You will find out later, darling." She said and wrapped a blanket around you. "Tomorrow is my birthday, mommy." You said with a smile. "I can't believe you are turning eight already." She said and wrapped an arm around your shoulders. You looked up at her and smiled.
Your little brother put his head on your lap and looked up at you. "I'm scared." He mumbled. "Me too." You said and pet his head. He started to fall asleep as a soldier stormed through the door of your unit. "We need to move, they broke in. We don't have much time." The soldier yelled. Your mom got up, picked up your little brother and grabbed your hand. "Mommy, what's going on?" You asked. "I don't have time to explain." She said and ran out the door with you and your little brother.
You were now above ground and saw people but they didn't look quite right. They were very pale and their eyes were cold and lifeless. "Come on. We don't have time to stop." Your mom said and started to run again. You followed and made your way to a big building that everyone else was running towards. "Go. Go. Go." A soldier was yelling and one of those lifeless looking people grabbed your mother's arm ripping her sweater. A soldier shot the man in the head and push the three of you inside.
"Can you just tell me what is going on?" You yelled looking into your mother's eyes. She looked so terrified and sick. "I can't." She said and dragged you along. She put your brother down, as soon as she did so, he grabbed your hand.
You made your way to some other soldiers that would guide you to where you needed to go. "I will take you to unit five, just follow me." A soldier said. You followed the soldier to your unit and your mother immediately sat down on the bed. "Are you okay, mommy?" Your little brother asked. "I'm fine, sweetheart." She said looked at the rip in her sweater that man gave her. "Stay here I will be back." She said and exited the unit. You stayed in with your brother and decided to lay down and your brother did the same. You held him close and tight. "But I will get infected and I have two children!" You heard your mother yell from outside. "Ma'am we will try to find a cure as soon as possible now go back to your unit." A soldier said. Your mom walked in and sat on the other bed. "Is everything okay?" You asked. "Yes. Don't worry." She said and got in bed.
You woke up and your little brother was still sleeping. You quietly slid out of bed and your small, bare feet touched the cold ground. You then exited the unit. You looked around and it was cold and empty. It felt like you were in an abandoned building. You began to walk and you could faintly here your feet hit the ground. You turned the corner and saw a soldier walking down the hall. You quickly hid under the table as he walked by. When his back was to you, you ran to the next corner and saw a young kid walk out of his unit like you had. He looked around your age so you approached him. "Hello." You whispered with a smile. "H-hi." He stuttered. "I'm Y/N. What's your name?" You asked and held out your hand. "Ozzie." He said and shook your hand. "Why are you out here?" You asked and grabbed the sides of your long white gown. "I woke up so I thought I would explore." He whispered. "Me too. Would you like to come over to my unit?" You asked. "Sure." He whispered and you snuck your way back to your unit. "Who is that?" Your brother whispered. "My friend, Ozzie." You whispered and Ozzie waved.
