The first day of being a junior at a new high school wasn't exactly what I had expected. I guess I thought there would be a bunch of meaningless noise, but actually, it wasn't. I suppose the students at this school weren't used to a new girl, and that's exactly what I was. Nobody really came up to me and introduced themselves, and nobody took a second glance at me. Did anyone care?
I guess one guy did. He walked in, looked around, and saw me. He had long dark hair, and wore a snapback. He wore skinny jeans and a loose, gray t-shirt. Knowing I was new, he came over and greeted me. "Hi, I'm Vic. You new here?" You smirked, relieved that somebody cared. "Yeah, actually you're the first one to notice me. My name's Gabby."
He dropped his bag on the ground and folded his arms on the table. "Nice name. Very pretty. Why did you decide to change schools?" I glanced down at my thumbs, which were twirling around each other, and shrugged. "Kinda hard to explain. Long story short we just didn't like the school I was already going to." He smiled. "Well, I'm glad you transferred." What was that supposed to mean?
Classes started shortly after, and Vic and I didn't have the same ones. Everything was pretty much the same as the old high school, except bigger, and it felt like it was so easy to stand out. Despite how large it is. I didn't see Vic for the rest of the morning.
I don't want to say I'm trying to stalk him, but he was an interesting guy to me. I mean, making a friend on the first day is a plus right?
It was time for lunch, but honestly, I wasn't hungry. Being the first day and all, didn't actually help my stomach. I didn't even know where to sit, I doubted Vic would even be in this lunch period. But, surprisingly, I was wrong. He jogged over to me. "Hey! Wanna sit with me and my friends?" I tilted my head in a slightly confused way. "You still want to talk to me?" He laughed. "Of course! Come on, I'll introduce you to my friends!" He lead me over to a table full of seniors maybe? He had already saved one spot next to him for me.
When we sat down, he said "Guys, this is Gabby. Gabby, this is Alex," He pointed to a guy with a beanie on and growing facial hair. "Jack," Kind of a skunk look with his hair. He had the same thing with facial hair too. "Zack," Muscular, with clean cut hair. "Rian," His hair was a bit messy and short. "Jaime, pronounced 'Hi-Me'
Make sure you get it right he hates it pronounced like 'Jamie', " He had a spiky look to his hair, and dimples. "Tony," Long, dark hair with ear piercings. "And my little brother, Mike." He had long hair also, and looked a lot like Vic. They all welcomed me with a warm embrace. "When are the girlfriend's coming here?" Vic asked, shifting in his seat. "They don't have this lunch period. But we agreed to do something after school. Would you like to join us Gabby?" Jaime asked. That was surprising. I literally just met these guys and they gladly invited me to hang out? "I don't want to intrude or anything." I replied. The whole table laughed, as if there were an inside joke. "Actually, Vic could use someone to go with." Jaime jokingly remarked. I turned my head to Vic's. "You don't have a girlfriend Vic?" He shyly smiled, "No, but that's fine. I haven't found anyone yet." Alex replied, "Think you just did..." And everyone laughed. Not mean-like, but just kind of a laugh that makes fun of the awkward situation. "I barely know her dude! Speaking of which," He changed the subject. "What year are you?" All eyes were on me. "Junior." Everyone in unison, said senior. Of course, I was the only one that was a year away from everyone else. "I remember junior year." Jack said. "Of course you would ding-dong, it was just a year ago." Jack ignored him, an continued, "It was cool, you know, besides being in a band and school at the same time doesn't really help me." My curiosity was peaked. "You're in a band?" He nodded. "With Rian, Alex, and Zack." Vic went after him saying, "I'm in one with the rest of the guys." We started maybe two, three years ago? Eh, all I know is we've gotten WAY better than what we used to do." The bell rang, and everyone in the cafeteria dispersed into groups. "Oh geez! Next class is starting in five minutes! Nice meeting you Gabby." Jaime ran off. Everyone else in the group too, leaving me and Vic. "See you later then?" He asked. "Yeah, see you."
