REMEMBER: THIS CHAPTER IS NOT PART OF THE MAIN STORY, ITS JUST SOMETHING I THOUGHT OF AND DIDNT WANT TO CREATE A WHOLE NOTHER BOOK FOR
---------------
Phil stared at the hospital floor, his legs bouncing as he tried to keep himself together. No one else knew that the person in that room was there. Dan had told Phil not to tell anyone. Of course, Phil had agreed.
He wanted to get up and start pacing again, but he knew he'd just get told to sit down and stop getting in the way, like the other 7 times.
Finally, he took out his phone, hoping to distract himself. No. What would the boy think?
Putting it back in the pocket of his black skinny jeans, he got up. Almost instantly a nurse came around the corner, staring at Phil. Probably amazed at his tallness.
He didn't notice that he had left lion on the bench. Phil had brought lion just in case things didn't go well. So he could hug Lion, who the boy had given Phil as a gift.
Suddenly, a doctor approached him. His eyes were filled with sympathy, which made Phil's heart sink. Something had gone wrong.
"I'm sorry. Your fren(sorry I always spell it like that Dil with it)is in critical condition, and he might not make it."
His first reaction is to wonder if this is a dream. Wonder if if he closes his eyes tight enough, he can wake up and go across the hall and find his best friend sleeping there. But of course, it's not.
"Would you like to see him?"
Phil looks at the doctor as if he's crazy. "Of course I do."
Phil starts walking towards the door that the boy lies behind.
He doesn't realize that he's left behind Lion, his precious stuffed animal. The boy gave it to him, after all.
He pushes the door open, and sees his best friend lying on the white hospital bed. He looks so strange in white. His skin looks even paler than usual, sand his closed eyes have big bags under them. He's breathing. So hard.
"Dan?" He whispers.
The first time he's said his name in months. It feels so good on his mouth, just like his hugs did. Just like laughing with him until their stomachs hurt did. Just like anything to do with him did. Why did he have to fight with him? Why?
He realizes there is a nurse standing in the corner of the white room. Ignoring her, he goes to Dan, who's eyes are closed.
"Hey, sleepy head," he whispers, just like Dan used to do to Phil when Phil slept in. "Wanna get up for me?"
Phil sighed. There was no going back from this.
"What was the cause of this?" The nurse standing in the corner started when she realized that she was being talked to.
"Oh! Umm, funny thing, we don't know!"
Phil tries to be patient with the nurse, but he can't help it.
"Hah, well funny thing, THIS IS A FUCKING HOSPITAL! You guys are obviously not cut out to-"
Suddenly, a nurse comes out of nowhere and puts her hand over his mouth. Phil realizes that for the first time in... forever, he cursed.
"Please don't yell. He can hear you, you know."
He lowers his voice, but makes sure it still shows his anger,"Then why can't you make him wake up?!"
"We've tried everything-"
"In five hours?!"
"Hush. Do you hear his heart rate?"
He shuts his mouth, and she's right. It's increased. A lot. He instantly regrets it. He mouths to the nurse," Does he know?"
The nurse shakes her head. Well, he probably knows now. He won't be waking up.
Meanwhile, outside of the room, a little girl is crying. Her mother, also crying, and her approach the bench where Phil was previously sitting. The little girl sees Lion. She picks him up and hugs him, and starts telling him about her father, who's on his deathbed.
Phil looks at Dan. He goes up to him, and holds his hand.
"Dan? Hey, can you hear me?"
And to Phil's surprise, Dan opens his eyes.
"Phil?" a slight whisper, that's all he can manage. His heart beat increases again.
"Mind taking out your phone and videotaping this?"
Phil obeys, speechless.
THE VIDEO:
"I just want everyone hearing this to know that I love them," says Dan, or at least whispers.
He looks like he's come back from the dead. And his eyes must be bleeding, they're so red. In the background, you can hear Phil's sobbing.
"Phil is going to post this video on my channel, I hope. It'll be the last one. Never expected it to be so soon."
Dan closes his eyes, takes some slow breaths, his heart beat goes down again. It's awhile before he opens them, and Phil thinks he might have gone back into the coma.
"Goodbye... internet."
The heart beat monitor has become a straight line. The beeps have turned into one long, nonstop one. The camera drops to the floor. All you can hear are Phil's screams.
