Authors note: so ConnieBMasters asked about bringing Jacob into this fic. Having just watched his first episode yesterday (with not been a regular viewer at the time) i was considering bringing him in somehow; anyway, i am gonna introduce him but not in the way the episode did as cant remember all words etc and it probably wont be for a few chapters. And the whole Connie and Rita feud didnt escalate to the point of Connie been arrested. Oh and Sam never knew he was Grace's dad so wont be included. Enjoy. :)

The next morning, Grace was reluctant to go to school and considering how little sleep her daughter had got the previous night, Connie agreed to let her have the day off; secretly, she hoped her and Grace would reach and understanding and come to a compromise. Walking through the department at just before seven that morning, her hand in Grace's, she ignored the looks given by her staff and headed straight for her office; hanging both their coats up, Connie turned to her daughter and crouched down in front of her as she stood before her.

"Okay baby; i have to get to work but if you start to feel weird or you feel an attack coming on, i want you to come and find me, okay? Or Auntie Zoe or Max or Uncle Charlie?"

Grace nodded.

"I'll be in and out all day; i'll come and check on you whenever i can. And if you feel like you need to talk, you text me and i'll come as soon as i can; and the same goes if you need to go to the bathroom or you go to the shop.  You text me and you dont leave hospital grounds, promise?"

"I promise" she yawned.

"Good girl; try and get some sleep Grace. You didnt get much last night; it's not good for you" she said, leading her daughter to the sofa and placing a pillow under her head and a blanket over her. "Sweet dreams darling"

As she kissed her forehead, there was  knock on the door before it opened and Charlie was stood in the doorway; leaving Grace to sleep, she followed Charlie out and shut the door behind her with a sheet of paper saying 'do not disturb' attached to it.

"Sorry, didnt mean to disturb you" he apologised.

"It's fine; she's just tired" she said, as they headed towards the main hub so she could do the morning meeting.

"If you dont mind me saying, you look like you could sleep for a week too"

"I'll be fine"

"You still owe me an explanation" he reminded her.

"I will Charlie; just not now and not here" she insisted.

With the morning get together over with; she glanced through her office window to check on a sleeping Grace before been called into Resus for an incoming emergency. By the time she'd come out, it was already mid-morning; glancing through her office window again, she saw Grace still asleep with Zoe sat up to her desk. Quietly, she opened the door and gestured for the other consultant to join her; shutting the door behind them, they headed into the staff room.

"Did she wake up?" Connie asked.

"Just started whimpering when i came to find you so i stayed until she was asleep again"

"Thanks; what did you need me for?"

"Long story; i'll find you later on my break"

"Is it important?"

"Depends on how you look at it; dont worry, you get back to your patient and i'll keep an eye on Grace"

"My patient is stable and in cubicles; i'm gonna sit and do paperwork"

"Okay"

As Zoe got to work on the next incoming patient, Connie headed into her office and shut the door behind her; carefully, she sat on the floor next to the sofa and kissed her daughter's hair and she ran her fingers through it, deciding to use the floor rather than her desk for paperwork. By lunch time, Grace was still asleep so Connie went and got them a salad, cake and drink each from the shop before heading back to her daughter; settling the refreshments on the side table, she gently stroked her daughter's hair back.
