He didn't mean to make her fall. He had tried to catch her but he missed her hand. Now here she is, lying in the hospital bed in critical condition. "This is all. My. FAULT!" Wallabee Beetles yelled in frustration, "if only I had caught her, then she wouldn't be in this cruddy place!"
"Numbuh Four, calm down. There's nothing you can do now," Nigel Uno, also known as Numbuh One said to Wally. Nigel walked around the hospital bed to stand next to his teammate, "We should go, visiting hours are almost over."
"No, I'm staying. You can go on ahead, mate," Wally replied in a short manner. Numbuh One shrugged and walked out of the blank room, leaving Numbuh Four with the girl in the hospital bed and the slow beeping of the machinery attached to the girl. Wallabee looked down at the girl in the bed with tears in his eyes. "Kuki, I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have let you go alone. I should have fallen with you, caught you, something other than let you fall," the boy whispered. He bent over and kissed the top of his teammate's head. Numbuh Three, also known as Kuki, had fallen from one of the tallest buildings in the area. Now she lies motionless except for the slow rising and falling of her chest. Wally grabbed her hand and watched her breathe. She looked so peaceful, but the red bandages on her body said otherwise. He stood there for a moment, then a nurse walked in silently, but her movement was loud enough to make the boy cringe.
"I'm sorry honey, but visiting hours are over, only family is allowed to stay," the nurse stated in a flat monotone. There wasn't any sign of sympathy for him or emotion for either of the two children. Wallabee sighed, but kept his thoughts to himself. He tried to release Kuki's hand, but something kept him from releasing her. It was her hand, she was holding onto him! He couldn't leave her now! So he did his best to come up with a logical lie, "Well, uh, you see, believe it or not, I'm Kuki's...half-brother! It's complicated but we have the same dad." The nurse looked at the unconscious girl, then back at Numbuh Four. She saw how Kuki's grip was around Wallabee's hand, then finally said, "Okay, you can stay," and with that the nurse stepped out of the room. Wally sighed, then looked back down at the girl. He pulled up a chair next to her bed, still not letting go of her hand. He remembered what had happened like it was yesterday, when in fact it had been almost a week ago.
