~CHAPTER ONE~

I turned the steering wheel and passed under the fair's entrance sign. "There it is, Rose!" I widely grinned and lowered my voice to imitate a tour guide, "We are now entering Space World Fair."

My sister rolled her golden, brown eyes at my ridiculousness. Excuse me for being excited about visiting my favorite amusement park from my childhood. I don't know if it has to do with my parents working for NASA, but I've always kind of had a thing for space. Space World Fair is what really connected my family when I was a kid.

However, Space World Fair wasn't always an amusement park. It started out as a carnival, but evolved into an full-on amusement park because its business became so popular. The corporation figured they could make more money in a permanent position, especially since it resided in a popular tourist area.

I handed my cell phone to Rose. "Hey can you film this for me?"

She raised an eyebrow. "A video of us pulling into a parking lot isn't all that exciting, Dawn."

"What? " I exclaimed defensively. "I want to capture every minute I have here."

"Look, I get that it's your favorite place in the world, but filming us driving through the entrance is a bit over the top."

I clutched my hand over my heart. "Me? Acting over the top? No way."

As soon as I parked, I jumped out of our rental car and put on my sparkly silver, alien antenna headband. Rose crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow at me. "You look ridiculous."

"I do not!"

"Yes, you look like you're twelve."

"Your face looks like you're twelve." I retorted.

Excitement pumped through my veins. Rose rolled her eyes and ran her fingers through her blonde hair, while I giddily ran to the gate, giggling the whole way. "You embarrass me." She muttered.

I smiled innocently. "I do it just to piss you off."

Rose rolled her eyes. "I can't believe I'm the mature sibling."

We walked towards the ticket gates. While waiting in line, Rose whispered, "You know, we're here really early."

"So we can fit in everything I have planned for today, duh! But first we have to ride the Space Trolly to get to Cosmic Kingdom." I stated matter-of-factly.

I practically skipped on the way to the Space Trolly, while Rose trudged behind me. "Are we going to be doing this much walking all day?"

People crammed around us and we were squeezed together like a pack of sardines inside the modern train. I gripped Rose's wrist making sure we stuck together. After a few minutes, we arrive at our destination and the doors open. Everyone crammed through the door in a rush to get off.

"Ow!" I exclaimed when a stranger shoved me out of the way. "So much for 'ladies first', am I right, Rose?"

I looked back expecting my sister to respond with her usual snarky comment, but she was no longer there. I realized I had lost my grip on her wrist when that rude guy pushed me out of the way.

Holy shit. I lost my sister on the first day of vacation. What would my parents say when they found out about this? I tried not to think about what their response would be and scanned the crowd.
