Every story has a beginning, Mine started when I was eighteen. Just a senior at Talent Choice High. Here, I'm the outcast of the outcasts. Most people don't even know I exist. Nor do I get talked to unless it's by Amber Hunt who is head cheerleader.

She always has people following her like chickens with their heads cut off or something. Anyway, she hates me for some odd reason. Maybe it's my pale skin or my long black hair that stops near my butt. Perhaps he, I look at her the wrong way." Hey freak show, you might wanna watch where you are stepping." The brunette would say before tripping me in the hallway.

Don't ask me how many tardies I have going to my fifth-hour cause of her. " Miss. Dawn Rosewater, I see that you are doing your usual thing." Mrs. Duran would say when I came in every day. Only this time, it was different. We have a new kid in class now.

This guy looks about six foot and either one or two inches. I went to my seat and he smiled at me which is a shock since I'm not used to that at all. With that being said, I couldn't stop looking at him because of it. How could someone look at me like that with their forest green eyes and those freckles all over their face? Especially with Amber being in the same room as us. Poor guy may turn into a target.

When I finally did fix my staring problem, the queen bitch herself decided that she was gonna fix his staring problem by telling him that he shouldn't be looking at me.' Well, there goes a chance at a friend now.' I thought until the red-headed guy turned around straight at Amber Hunt saying in an Italian accent," I can do as I damn well please." I was shocked and I wasn't the only one that was. Once the bell rung after twenty minutes of between listening to the teacher and laughing at the way Amber would glare madly at the new guy, I get my stuff ready to go to my next class when the ginger comes up to me.

' And now he gonna make himself a target for Amber's goons for sure.' I think before he puts his hand out and says," Hey, I'm Benedict Greco." I look at Ben and sighed," Honestly, I don't think its a good idea to talk to me." I said before starting to walk away. However, he then gently grabbed my wrist, " Miss, Im not here to cause you trouble. I know what she did to you earlier. I'm just here to help." He said as I pulled my hand away.

" Ben look, All your gonna do is get yourself hurt and in danger by talking to me. Just do yourself a favor and go be a lost chicken chasing miss popularity. Goodbye Ben." I said before rushing to my next class. At the end of the day, I walked home and didn't expect what would happen next. About halfway home, I looked down an alleyway and see Benedict fighting off the football players. I quickly took out my phone and start recording a few minutes before saying," Hey! Your being recorded!" with that said, it had them up and running.

I then rush up to Ben to help him since I see him trying to get back up but has trouble. That's when he grabbed my foot and about broke my foot. " Ben!" I shouted in pain as I fell and tried to get him to let go of my foot. That's when he stopped and said," Dawn? What are you doing here?" he asks as he then looks like he feels super bad for hurting me. Benedict then says," Lets go to my house. My parents can help you since their doctors." he says as he stands up all on his own.

I tried to slowly get myself up when Ben then picked me up and carried me to his house which was seven miles from where we were at. Now when we got there, It was a gorgeous Victorian home with three or four levels to the place. I could see that one of the lights were on at the top right window. The house is a light blue on the outside with white window frames. By the time we got to the door, I was super exhausted and I think I could Ben could tell because he had his hand behind my back to help me inside.

His parents were super nice to me. They called my mom and told her that I sprained my ankle. They also told her that they would like to watch me over the weekend to make sure I'm okay and my mom thought it was a good idea which was surprising to me cause I thought his parent's were working miracles. They had Benedict show me to the extra bedroom and my mom brought me a weekend worth of clothes which was a surprise that she didn't wreak the only car we have. Also, let me just say that I'm totally glad its the weekend and that I'm not spending it at home with mom.

It was a hot afternoon and I went to the backyard where I sat on the ground under a cherry blossom tree. Ben the followed me out there and sat with me saying," I'm glad that you're here Dawn." he said with a smile before I said," Honestly, I am too but this is just going to get u in more trouble. However, this is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me." I said honestly as he then looks shocked," How could this be? You're so beautiful." He said as I look away blushing.

" Stop, no I'm not. You're just saying that to be nice." I say shyly as he smiles at my reaction," But I mean every single word though." he says in a soft honest voice. I then look at him as I get this feeling in my chest,' What is this feeling that I'm getting right now?' I thought to myself as I was a bit worried about it. This feeling is foreign and its a bit scary. I had butterflies in my tummy. I then get up and take a deep breath." I..... I have homework." I said before going to my bedroom for the weekend.

Once there, I then get on my laptop and do my online homework. A couple of hours later, It was dinner time at their house. The great thing is that I was done with homework but I was surprised that it was seven o'clock. I go down to the dining room and Ben was at the bottom of the stairs waiting on me. " Hey, Ben." I said as he smiled and then he said,' Hello beautiful. Shall I escort you to the dinner table?" He asked before I nod and takes his arm.

He then walks me to the dining room like I was a princess. I felt my heart beat fast as we walked together feeling like everything is in slow motion. When we got there, at the table were four girls and three boys, four if I included Ben in the room. Anyway, Ben helped me to my seat which was beside him and his father. Everyone was sitting in boy, girl order Which was weird to me because I'm not used to this sort of thing.

It's just been my mom and her miserable excuse of a daughter, me. My brother is in the Army and sends me money most of the time to have food at school or whatever I need. He also sends money to my mom, but what he doesn't know, is that she doesn't send it to keep a roof over our head. She uses it to drink over the loss of her father who died before my brother went into the army. He was the breadwinner of the family before my brother was.

I have to use the money I get from him to pay for a place for my brother to go home to. I hardly at school because of all the bills I have to pay. The food in front of my nose smelled like a fine dining restaurant. My tummy growls as though a lion was trying to roar at everyone in the room. It was so loud that I was worried that everyone in the room heard it.

They then prayed and started eating right after and I could have sworn I ate five or six plates full of food before I was finally done. If I'm honest though, I was so embarrassed that I ate so much in front of this working-class family that has never seen a starving person before nor someone who ate so much. " Were you starving dear?" Mrs. Greco says in a concerned voice. I loved how her Italian accent worked so well with her sweet voice. They intertwined like a braided friendship bracelet.

" Honestly, ma'am, I haven't eaten in a month. " I said in a quiet and polite voice as she then looks at Ben's father shocked. That was when they excused themselves from the table and went to talk in another room. They talked in Italian so I wouldn't understand what they were saying. Ben and I then excuse ourselves from the table and went to talk in another room.

" So what is your mom like?" he asked as we walked into my room. I cringed when he asked me this and he gave me a concerned looked as I think of good things to say about her. Once we sat on my bed, I sighed," I don't know about her anymore. She has changed since her father died and my brother went to war." I said before Benedict then took my hand. " I'm so sorry about your mama." He said in a sad voice. I was afraid to tell him what is going on with my household when he said," Dawn, whatever is going on at home, your brother needs to know." Ben says honestly.

I decided that he was right and so, in front of Ben, I wrote a letter to Jake, my brother, telling him what was going on at home. after I was done writing it, Ben went to bed. I felt bad for even writing it and put it into the dresser drawer with a blue rose on top of it because I felt like it would add a lot more stress to my brother while he was at war if he read it. After that, I then went to sleep.
