*Blake's POV*
Kodie's limping, that can never be good but I decide right now just to be thankful that he's alive. He could've died, but what he did saved my granddad's cattle so I guess it's not that bad. Whiskey walks over to him nudging again this shoulder. Kodie reaches up and scratches his neck. He lays his head on Kodies shoulder and just stands there. Sliverado then does the same to me, while holding his leg up."Dad can you hold Sliverado, he's holding his leg up pretty bad."
I make Sliverado give me his leg and feel it. There's no heat, but there is blood running down his leg. I follow the blood trail and it's a cut on his hock. I get my phone out and decide to call Scott the local vet. He says that he will be here in about an hour. I take Sliverado from my dad and pet him making sure to keep him calm. Dad says that he will stay with the thieves, until the cops get here. I walk Sliverado to the barn and Kodie rides Whiskey. We both reach the barn at the same time, and I take Sliverado to the barn and wash off the cut to really get a good look at how bad it is. Kodie gets off Whiskey, but not without wincing, I can't really tell if it's his knee or his ankle. They are both pretty messed up a combination of football and basketball injuries. We take off all of Whiskeys gear and checks him over to make sure he is okay. He limps over to the tack room and comes out with the brushes, and ties Whiskey up, and begins to groom him.
"Kodie?"
"Yeah?"
"Were you scared to do what you did?"
"Being completely honest here yes I was scared shitless, but there's something my dad always told me to never back down no matter how scared you are. I live by that, I miss when I was just a kid and my dad was always here to protect me and now he's not so I can't be scared, I have too much to protect now."
"Yeah, I don't know what I would've done if you weren't there."
"You probably would've still done the right thing, even if it wasn't the same as me."
I hear gravel crunch under tires, and I look out of the barn to see that it is the Vet. Kodie finishes brushing Whiskey and puts him up in his stall. I look at Scott and tell him what exactly is wrong with Sliverado.
"There's about a six inch cut on his hock, I was unable to tell exactly how deep it is. I just wanted to call you and make sure the leg would be okay."
He takes a long time to look at his wound, and during this time me and Kodie exchange many different looks. Kodie looks like he is in some pain, and right now I don't see why he wouldn't be, he basically got trampled by a scared herd of cattle.
"Stitches and some rest will fix that right up."
*Mckalas POV*
I open my door to the smell of dinner cooking downstairs and look at my phone hoping there would be something from Blake, but there's not. I walk downstairs to see my dad making spaghetti, and smile at the sight. It's nice being back at my dads at least for a little while anyways.. I don't know how long I'll be here, because I'm only here while everything with Blake's grandpa is going on. My dad still doesn't have his shit together, so he wants me living with Blake's grandparents. I want to be with my dad all the time, I want my daddy. It's obvious now that either of my parents want me. Then my phone lights up, and I smile when I see that's it's Blake.
"Hey."
"Hey baby." My cheeks turn blood red at the sound of his voice saying "baby" something I thought he would never call me again. I really thought that nothing would ever happen between us, I thought he was over me.
"How's your granddad?"
"He's doing some better. They got the blockages in his heart, fixed up. He just needs to rest now. Which he's doing in the hospital."
