I think time is a strange concept, no matter how many times we think back to the past, time pushes us forward. All the sadness and tears eventually become a fragment of memories that lie in your heart.

And just like that, a few months passed.

Emi and I kept in contact, constantly teasing each other and laughing.

That night I told her everything that happened between Eva and me, she quietly listened and asked me a question that resonated with me, "are you happy?"

I didn't have an answer at that time.

We would always go to eachother's houses with little remorse as we stayed over the entire day. This time I had gone to her house to chat a bit.

I rang the doorbell and she had answered it with excitement.

"Emi." I approached her and widen my arms as she snaked her arms around my waist for an affectionate hug.

I grinned, "missed me?"

She shook her head, "no, I saw you yesterday."

"You should have slept over, you know that."

She stuck her tongue out, "no way, buddy."

"I wouldn't try anything, if that's what concerns you."

She frowned, "that's not the issue."

I tilted my head, "do you want me to do something?"

With that she had punched me in the gut and I winced in pain again. I had begun a habit of teasing her and she had been acting completely immune to it.

However, Eva would beg to differ.

"Why haven't you asked Emi out!?"

I paused as I we were sitting in our usual café place and then I glanced at Dean who gave me a rather sympathetic look.

Eva and Dean had decided to call it quits completely as they were better off as friends, which I had fully supported. It was surprising pleasant when the three of us were together. Dean and I patched things up rather quickly or we decided that it wasn't worth the fight.

"What do you mean, Eva?"

She rolled her eyes, "you and Emi have been literally together every single day. You go over to her house when she doesn't come over and you guys call each other over the phone every single day. You got jealous when you saw her talking to a senior."

"I don't think jealous was quite it."

Eva looked like she wanted to punch me, I guess I have that charm with girls.

"Didn't she run away when she saw a girl flirting with you and you immediately went after Emi to reassure her you weren't dating anyone?"

I was silent and Eva continued to verbally abuse me.

"And on new years eve at my party, you and Emi left early. I thought you woud've asked her then, but nope, you ended up playing board games!?"

"It was pretty fun, you know."

"Have you've kissed her yet?"

I shook my head and Eva moaned in annoyance, "Seriously, I don't get you Evans. She might seriously leave you."

I shrugged, "I don't know about that."

Dean shook his head, "give him a break Eva, I'm sure things will work out eventually."

"They're literally always together but they don't do anything."

Dean shrug, "I think that's the complete opposite, if a guy does nothing but talk to her, I think that's something."

I nodded, "plus, I think she's still getting over the other guy."

The two of them nodded in understanding as I continued my friendship with Emi, it was a something that hardly ever wavered until Emi saw me talking to Lily.

She had come up to me to say hi and the conversation was nostalgic and sweet.

"Seriously Evans, you were probably the best boyfriend I had but you know...I..."

"You liked someone else right? No matter how 'nice' I am, you shouldn't force the heart to feel something else. That's not fair to anybody."

She paused and then laugh, "when did you become such a wise guy?"

"Dunnoe."

"And about Emi...she's a pretty great catch! I think you and her are seriously cute."

I smiled, "thanks. I think we are too."

Not letting onto the fact that we weren't dating, I congratulated on her engagement with her boyfriend.

However Emi was slightly awkward about the whole fiasco that was Lily and I.

After that I ate lunch with Lily and I walked to Emi's house to see her, "Emi, you're oddly quiet, you know that."

"Shut it, Evans."

"Wassup?"

She pursed her lips, "so are you Lily...a thing?"

I think at that point I had lost all patience with Emi.

If you had thought about it in my perspective, I had always come to her house nonstop, I had repetitively told her that I was no interested in anyone and I even flirted with her a couple of times.

Yet after all that she still didn't understand.

I was frustrated and in the heat of the moment I was brash, "are you serious with Emi!? After freaking four months, I thought you would figure it out by now!"

"What the heck are you saying Evans?"

"You've got to be kidding me. Lily and I!? HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE? DID YOU CONVIENTLY FORGET THAT SHE'S ENGAGED?"

"BUT I SAW YOU WITH HER."

"EMI, ARE YOU SERIOUS!?" I breathed in and out, in utter disbelief as I spoke softly, "I've been with you for so long and you still don't know who I'm interested in."

I could see her fuming too, "I KEPT HELP BUT BE CONFUSED, IT'S HARD TO BE CALM IF I LIKE THE GUY!"

She and I paused at that statement.

My mouth began to widened and I could tell she instantly regretted this.

"I waited several months for this and held myself back because I thought you wanted your space, and I swear to god I was going to kill myself every time. And now you tell me this bullshit, I seriously – you know what?"

Emi, whose face was red as a plum, stuttered while I approached her, "what?"

"I'm going to use this time to make use of our wasted four months."

And I would say I made up for the loss time.

.

.

.

I would ask her out promptly after that.

She said yes.
