Emily Johnson was your typical fourteen year old girl, well that is if you consider a spoiled little rich brat typical. She lived in a gigantic mansion, her parents owned a huge company, and she was totally popular in school. Emily was worshiped by everyone in her school. She had anything, anyone could ever dream of having. It was pretty obvious her life was perfect. She had an easy going life.
Once when Emily woke up from a nap she was clueless on what year, day, hour, and minute it was. She searched for her parents but her house was empty, and the house she was in wasn’t her house. She hadn’t ever seen this house before. She was scared and didn’t know what to do. She looked around the house, looking for someone, a phone, or anything that could possibly help her figure out where she was. All she found was a cell phone, which didn’t help because it was dead. But, beside the phone was a note and it said in big bold letters the words “RUN NOW!!!”
Emily then yelled “what is this some kind of joke or something?” She didn’t know what to. She heard footsteps, and suddenly got terrified. She ran out the door into the forest as fast as she could and as far away from the house as she could. When she stopped she was completely out of breath and was panting harder than she ever had before. She was lost and it was beginning to get dark. Emily began to feel hopeless.
She was hungry, but was scared to eat any of the food in the forest because she didn’t know what could be poisonous. She also was extremely thirsty and didn’t want to become dehydrated. She saw a river up ahead, so she began to walk to it. Once she finally reached it she dunked her head it and started gulping down the dirty water. Although it was dirty it tasted like the best thing she ever had. After tons of gulping she decided that she was no longer thirsty. It was almost pitch black darkness in the sky, but she wasn’t tired at all. She was getting hungrier each second she stood there. She found a natural food she was very familiar with blackberries. She found tons of blackberries; it was like an entire field of blackberries. She ate some and put some in her pockets just in case she couldn’t find anymore.
She guessed that it was somewhere around mid-night so she sat by a tree and stared at the stars, she looked for the moon but there wasn’t one she thought that it was probably hidden by the trees. She eventually dozed off into a heavy sleep. She dreamed of finding her way home and being with her happy family. Someone had awoken her and scared her half to death. She looked up and saw that it was just a boy probably near her age. Emily asked the strange boy for his name he said that his name was Dakota. Dakota asked Emily “why were you sleeping in the woods last night?” She said “long story short I didn’t know where I was and got scared so I ran out of the unfamiliar house, I woke up in, now why are u in the woods?” Dakota replied in an ashamed voice “I live here alone my parents died in a car accident and I didn’t know the rest of my family.” Emily had a frown on her face and said “I’m sorry, you can come with me if you would like!” Okay” said Dakota filled with excitement and joy. But Dakota was still confused on how his new friend woke up in an unfamiliar house. He asked “can you please show me where the house is?” Emily said with hesitation “sure why not.”
They walked through the forest talking about how their lives were. Emily thought to herself that the house was near here. She looked down at the ground and saw some footprints and they weren’t a child’s foot she knew that they had to be really close to the house. She was right around the corner she saw the house. She automatically felt fear. She said “there is it Dakota, the house I woke up in.” His eyes widen with surprise and fright and said “that house was burned down four years ago!” Emily got the shivers and stuttered “Th-then h-h-how is it right there in front of our eyes???” “I’m not exactly sure…” replied Dakota.
Neither Dakota nor Emily knew how the house was still was still there, if it had burned down four years ago. They were filled with fear. Emily was ready to go and tugged on Dakota to go with her, but he refused. He didn’t want to go; he was too curious and just needed a tiny peek inside. Emily didn’t want to be left alone again, so she and Dakota wondered inside. They took quick and quiet steps, careful not to make any noise once so ever. They got to the first room in the house and crept inside. The room was filled with c.d, boom boxes, and other music objects that they couldn’t name. The stranger who apparently lives in the house had a pretty good taste in music because Emily asked “can we please, seriously, listen to some of these songs?”, but of course Dakota’s reply was “absolutely not, now can you please hush before someone hears us?” Emily just frowned, but knew that it was probably best to keep quiet.
Emily and Dakota both heard footsteps, but neither of them said anything because they thought they were hearing each other scatter through things. They both were wrong a 35-ish year old looking man walked through the hall. He held a gun in his hands. Dakota and Emily looked at each, knowing what the other was thinking the split up, ran, and hid. Neither one of them left the house. Emily hid behind a couch and Dakota hid in some cabinets. The man walked right past Dakota, without noticing. He didn’t notice Emily either, but he sat on the couch she was hiding behind. She almost started to breathe heavy from being so scared, but she held it back because she knew the man had a gun and she wasn’t in the mood for getting shot.
The man turned on the TV and then got, he went in some room that Emily or had Dakota explored yet. After the man had shut the door, Dakota jumped up and ran to Emily. He yanked her arm and pulled her out the house. Emily tried to run away from the house but Dakota didn’t give in. he pulled her behind the house near a window. ‘why aren’t we leaving this play” Emily asked “you do realize that man had a gun, right?” ‘yes, I know but, I swear I’ve seen that man before, he sort of looks how my dad used to look” replied Dakota. Emily was confused and said “ohhh, but, ummmm, I thought that you’re uhh, dad umm died…””yeah, he did” said Dakota. Emily was getting more and more puzzled by the second. Dakota also said, “oh yeah…, I forgot to tell you something…, you know how I said that this house was burned down four years ago, well it was and I was the one who burned it to ashes, it was my house and I burned it down right after my parents died in the accident” Emily was shocked and said “not to offend you or anything but why would you purposely burn your own home down?” Dakota didn’t look up while Emily was talking to him and Emily didn’t think he was going to answer but after a while he did, he said, “because there were to many good memories with my parents in that house.” Emily said “oh, but”. She didn’t get to finish because the front door slammed and the man stomped outside.
The two kids scampered up a nearby tree, watching the man with very careful eyes. He didn’t seem to out of the ordinary he began cutting grass, when he was finished he began chopping wood, probably for a fire. The man started to laugh and said “you two having fun spying on me?” Emily looked at Dakota not knowing what to say, his eyes were filled with tears. Emily ask what was wrong ally Dakota said “that’s my dad I just know it” Emily didn’t say anything, she didn’t know what to say and plus she didn’t want to reminded Dakota that his father was dead. The man looked up in the tree that Emily and Dakota were in he said “well, ya’ll want something to eat?” Dakota was still in tears and Emily didnt know what to say. the man wiped his eyes making sure he wasnt talking to himself. but the two kids were still there. He hated when kids ignored him so he said "well either speak up or i will cut that there tree you are in down!" Emily said "sorry sir, yes we would like some food" she didnt want to make the man mad or anything. So Dakota, Emiliy, and the man ate they had small talk conversations but, Dakota nor Emily never truely knew if the man was Dakotas father......
After Em and Dakota were done eating they left the house, em was walking behinde Dakota, thinking. She statred to think about Dakota, she started to wonder where he came from, what kind of family he had, where he went to school, was he popular, who did he hang out with, and ect. As she was wondering she couldnt get her mind off of him. She finially convessed to herself that she had a crush on Dakota, she loved how mystious he was. She noticed something that she hadnt noticed before about Dakota.... he had no footprints and his body was translucent. So.... was Dakota a ghost? Could Em seriously be falling for a ghost...?
It was getting late and they were both getting tired so they crashed by a tree. In the morning Em was gone, there was a trail of blood and dakota had dissappeared also. Later that day the strange man with the near-by house found Em's body. It had knife slices throught the neck, the head was gone and Dakota was never seen again
