“How much longer?” groaned Cameron as we continued waiting in line. We had already spent half an hour just standing here, moving only an inch every three-four minutes. I shrugged as I continued staring at my nails. I really needed a manicure.
“Welcome to ‘The Log Ride’ “ a boy not much older than us announced annoyed before escorting us into the seats. He explained a few simple and obvious rules before sending us off. As we made our way up the steep mountain, I clenched Cameron’s hand. I might have forgotten to mention, I don’t like heights. He squeezed my hand comforting me. The log sped up and we rid down the mountain at a high speed. The people behind us screamed as both Cameron and I smiled. A camera flashed as we hit the cold water. Since we were the front row, a wave of freezing cold water hit our skin. The ride came to a stop on the side as we exited. My whole dress was soaked and stuck to my skin. I shook my wet hair like a dog spraying Cameron like a madman. I laughed as Cameron grinned at my childish action.

I scarfed down my burger as the four of us sat at picnic table eating lunch. We had decided we would go to the water part of the amusement park. Apparently the log ride didn’t count. We all finished our lunches and slipped into stinky change rooms. I pulled my already wet dress of and pulled on some cute shorts Rose let me borrow. We both exited the change rooms in our bikini top and shorts. Rose wore a multicolored strapless bikini top. It had a cool design in the middle and ended in a knot in the back. My bikini top was simpler. It was a light green and strapless. It had loose frills lining the top. We both found Cameron and Landon laughing about something outside the boy’s change room. Both of them had stripped off their shirts so they only wore swim trunks. Cameron’s was blue while Landon’s were black. Both of them look incredibly attractive. They’re toned muscles visible and clear. I looked away from their shirtless bodies as we walked to the water parks. You could hear shrieks and shouts from people getting splashed or wet to their disappointment. If you don’t want to get wet, don’t go in the water? Is that not common sense?
As we neared the pool, Rose and Cameron both ran in. Leaving Landon and I to be alone. It was awkward since I had never had a conversation with Landon alone but he didn’t seem to mind.
“Enjoying the trip?” I asked trying to break the silence.
“Ya, I am.” He said ending the conversation. I hated when people did that. It basically blocked off the person who was asking the question.
“So…” I trailed off not knowing what to say.
“I know what you’re doing,” he said. I gave him a confused look. What is he talking about?
“Don’t play innocent. I know you’re trying to steal away Cameron from us!” he accused. What the nuggets?
“That isn’t my intention!” I replied. He just glared before continuing.
“For the last four days I’ve been trying to be nice and see if you are good enough. But your not! You are just some low life nerd who is trying to steal Cameron away from Rose and I. Rose might be blind and not see what your doing but I’m on to you!” he spit out.
“Landon, I’m sorry if that’s the impression I gave you but I’m just trying to fit in.” I said truthfully. He rolled his eyes.
“Stay away from him.” He threatened. I could feel the hot tears in my eyes. Right when I though everything was going fine, this had to happen. I was starting to develop a crush on a certain boy. But, no his best friend just had to threaten me to stay away!
“How? I’m on a two week trip with him!” I question. Had he not thought of this?
“I wish you didn’t even come on this trip. You bitch and a murde-“ I ran. I ran away before I could hear him say anything else. I knew what he was going to say. I knew what he was going to call me. I guess I deserved it. But did he have to bring it up?
I stared at myself in the change room mirror as the tears flowed down my face. This whole trip is and was a mistake. I just shouldn’t of come.
I changed out of my bikini and into my wet dress. I pulled out my phone and texted Cameron.
Don’t worry I’m fine. P.S. Goodbye.
I put away phone and rushed out of the park making sure neither Rose or Cameron would see me. I exited the gigantic amusement park leaving behind the three whom I thought were my friends. I hailed a cab and returned to the hotel in silence. I had shut my phone off on the way so I could avoid all of Cameron and Rose’s attempts to call me.
The driver stopped in front of the hotel and I thanked him. I rushed into the elevator with a few other guests. I waited in the awkward silence of the elevator as we rose up the building. I never before noticed the vacant and distant stares the riders held. Staring off into the distance as if they had nothing better to do.
Bing!
The elevator chimed as we arrived at my floor. I walked out pushing and shoving the ones around me. I slipped into the silence of Rose and I’s hotel room. I packed my suitcase stuffing all my belongings in. I pulled out my laptop and logged in. It had been awhile since I had been on the Internet. It felt like I had just met up with an old friend.
I scrolled through all the flights back to Calgary in the next few days. The next one was in two days. decided to stay back tomorrow while the trio continued their journey to Buñol. I had always dreamt of going there. But, my dream would have to wait. I would book my flight tomorrow after their train left at noon.
I shut down my laptop and snuggled into bed. My face still sticky from crying. I closed my eyes remembering the last few days. I had never imagined that Landon would react this way. My thoughts fled away as I shifted into a deep sleep.
