The Rushing River
Chapter 1: River
I dragged myself into the school ever so slowly. I've never been more reluctant to go to school rather than today. I hoped everyone would be nice. I just moved here to a small town called Montgomery, in the 2nd largest state in the U.S.! Texas. It was my first day at the large high school, and I didn't know what to expect. I walked in and People were everywhere. I was intimidated at first, but it seemed nobody noticed me. I eventually found a teacher among the crowd of hundreds of people.
"Where is the front office?" I asked politely.
She motioned down a long corridor specked with glass display cases.
"Thank you ma'am." I said as nice as I could. I managed to travel the corridor without actually being pushed. I was kind of surprised. To my right was the large main entrance to the main campus and it had a big bear statue right next to the door.Man that could be a bad morning for an unsuspecting teacher. I walked right up to the window of the front office, keeping the giant bear in my peripheral vision, and noticed a small lady sitting there in the front desk.
"Excuse me ma'am, I just moved here and I need my schedule." I said slowly not knowing what to expect.
Of course sweetie, what’s your name? She asked with a toothy grin.
Dawson James Clayton. I stated just loud enough for her to hear. She looked on her computer and began typing. After about a minute, she had my schedule printed out, along with a map of the entire school.
I turned around and almost screamed. The bear statue was inches from my nose. I decided to sit next to the bear on the bench it seemed to be protecting. My schedule said school started around 7:15. It was 7:06 so I had plenty of time to get everything on the map situated.
I coordinated my map with my schedule and highlighted all my classes and which period they were so I would have a decent time getting around. My first class was Mrs. Luce for Algebra 1. A name I’ve never heard before, but hopefully a name with a nice reputation.
Then it was Mrs. Hill for BIM. That stands for Business info management. Third period was Mrs. Ishee, a biology teacher. Fourth was Teen leadership with Coach Shelly. I’ve heard good things about him on Facebook. Fifth was World Geography with Coach Wylie.
I never know what to expect of a teacher named after a wolf. Sixth period was Adv. Spanish 2 with Mr. Montgomery. Seventh period was with Mrs. Griffin for English. And my very last class, for eighth period I had Mrs. Suzanne Ray.
A Goddess when it comes to theater. I’ve seen her legendary show “The Great Gatsby” over the summer, and I decided she was a phenomenal director and an even better person.
I still haven’t met her though so I don’t want to jinx it. I glanced at the time and realized I had 5 more minutes to burn.
I got up and headed towards the freshman campus for my first class. Algebra. I’ve always been kind of scared to think about what it would be like going to a different school. Now I’m doing it myself but for my very first year of High school.
I hoped the kids were nice, so far they seemed to be chill, but I haven’t talked to them either.
As a fifteen year old, it’s not hard to find yourself in trouble. I’ve managed to keep out of it myself for the most part.
I continued to trudge down the long hall that connected the two campuses together and saw a few boys that could catch my interest sometime in the future.
