The first meeting was on a Friday. The rain seemed to pour down all around Gavin as he made his was to the asylum. He knew why he was going - but he didn't know what drove him to look for him.
The door to the asylum swung open, as he was greeted with a young woman at a reception table. He walked up and cleared his throat.
“I-I'm here to see Mad King” he muttered uncomfortably. The words seemed so alien on his tounge - like something you would never say.
Mad King. The person who tried to kill him and Ray. The person who should be the last on his list of people to see.
“My name is Gavin Free” he continued “It's important I see him. Where is he?”
The lady glanced over Gavin, shock apparent on her face. “You're the first person to ever ask to see King, you know that right?” she remarked.
“The patient is dangerous. Even behind the glass wall, he could make you do anything. Don't answer any questions. Don't take anything. Don't give anything. Don't let him get into your head.”
So, King hadn’t seemed to change too much to Gavin. That was hardly suprising. He nodded “Thank you, Miss” he said, smiling. The woman gestured down a hallway.
“He's right down there. First door you see”
~
Gavin was never good at initiating conversation. The Mad King stood in the center of the glass cell, crownless. He looked so different without his crown. Like a normal citizen almost.
He took steps towards the cell, making eye contact with Gavin for a moment.
“Hello there, Vav.” he smirked, looking over at him. Gavin simply nodded, sitting down facing the cell.
“I would assume you are here because you want something, correct?” The King mused.
“No.” Gavin said immediately. “Im not sure why Im here, actually. I just…”
“Go on~” he prompted.
“I just...wanted to see you, I guess” he finished, looking down.
“Really? How intresting…I'm sure there's more you have to say. Continue, If you please”
Gavin obeyed “I...I don't know. I snuck out the house at 4am, so Ray wouldn't catch me going. I left a note saying I was at Ashs. I just had this...urge to see you. I couldn't stop thinking about you. You were everywhere I looked, even in my dreams. Constantly on my mind. I had to put it to rest” he confessed, looking up at the King.
Mad King looked down at him, smiling a little. “You really are something, aren't you, Vav? You'd do anything to get what you wanted, wouldn't you? Just like me. The only difference between us is that we want different things, is it not?”
“I...I guess you're right, yeah.” He agreed.
“I firmly believe that if you killed ~ that would change. You'll make an excellent partner when I get out” he smiled.
“No. I wouldn't ever leave Ray. You're never getting out anyways” Gavin stated simply.
“Oh, I'm quite sure that I'll get out.” He smirked.
“I beg to differ. Me and Ray will ~”
“~Its always Ray, isn't it?! You can't do anything without him! Don't you see how weak that is? You've been friends since you were seven. You were dumb and immature. Now you've grown up, but it seems that Ray hasn't. Quit the pleasantries and get rid of him already. Look at you now! You'd rather spend time with me, than him!” Mad King snapped.
“That's not true!” The hero yelled.
“Then why are you here? Why are you here instead of fucking around with your “best friend”?” he asked simply.
“Because I wanted to see you more?”
“Exactly. Can't you see that?” he questioned calmly, as if he was talking to a child.
“No...no. I can see that.”
“But I also know alot about you. Even with this information in your mind, it will take years for you to actually carry it out. To start a new life. To be reborn. To join my master-plan. You think, now, that you will never be able to. But maybe I could help you with that”
“Maybe you could. But maybe I'm not evil like you.” Gavin spat coldly.
“I beg to disagree. You go to any means nessacary to get what you want. What if that required breaking the law? Would you still do it?”
“Yes.” He replied immediately.
“Even murder, correct?”
Gavin thought for a moment before nodding his head twice.
“Then that's all that's left to say, I believe. All you need is to cut ties with Ray.”
Gavin said nothing, simply looking at the King.
“Besides, what's your real name, Vav? I know X-Rays, since you've been using it all this time. What about you?” Mad King asked, grinning
“Only if you tell me yours”
“But of course~”
“Don't laugh - It's Gavin. Gavin Free.” he admitted, smiling despite himself. “Now your turn”
“Its Ryan Haywood.” he said, smiling back.
“Its been a pleasure to see you, Ryan.” Gavin said, standing up to leave.
“As with you, Gavin. Will I see you again?”
Gavin froze, looking back at Ryan, thinking for a moment.
“Of course you will.”
