7-5 the Junior High Softball Team is winning
We're in the field, our pitcher is grinning.
She comes to the mound, ready to pitch,
She whips it around, without a hitch
Everything starts to go in slow motion,
The batter drives it, the crowd makes a commotion.
The ball sails over the center field-man's head,
She sprints to the fence with a feeling of dread.
One run goes by, the second close behind,
The center field-man throws it, but she's out of time.
The third run rounds third base, looking to go,
The other team's coach says "No! No! No!".
She runs back to third base, not daring to leave,
The ball has rolled in from the center field's heave.
It's reached the catcher, she holds up the ball,
She throws it to the pitcher, who is appalled.
7-7 the score is tied,
Our coach is looking like she could cry.
Our pitcher walks up to the mound once again,
She has the softball in her right hand.
She pitches the ball, and STRIKE ONE! We hear.
Everyone stands up on the bench and cheers.
Our pitcher pitches a ball, and then STRIKE TWO!
The catcher yells to the pitcher, "Do what you can do!"
The pitcher calmly walks back to her spot,
She rockets it to the catcher, and BAM! The ball is caught.
Strike Three! Batter's out! The umpire yells,
"One out!" Our pitcher starts to tell us.
Suddenly, as soon as the pitcher's back is turned,
The runner on third goes home, unconcerned.
Our pitcher whips around, and flips it to home fast,
The catcher catches it, and tags her unsurpassed.
The catcher throws it back to the pitcher, she is determined,
Our pitcher takes a deep breath and makes sure she is certain,
That she is ready to pitch the ball and make it a strike,
"Two outs!" she yells, then she walks back to the mound, catcher in sight.
Our pitcher sets up to pitch the ball,
She throws it and WHAM! Up and down the ball falls.
The Left Field-man runs to go and make the play,
CATCH! BATTERS OUT! Boy, are they going to pay!
