"You really think that avoiding junk food for two days will magically reduce your weight. Lollz huh, Hiral. Lollz", I said, chuckling humourlessly.
"Okay fine, it won't reduce my weight but at least it won't let those extra calories and fats make space in my body", she replied, adjusting the strap of her back pack.
"Hiral, it's just an ordinary date and that too with an over ordinary boy, Archit."
"First of all, he isn't ordinary. He is exceptional and fabulous. And second, why don't you understand, Aaru? I have a crush on him, with a capital C. It's obvious, I will get happy and overly excited. And you should be happy for me, the person I like, likes me back. Why are you so stubborn to accept this fact? Do you want me to have a happy walk in my past?" She countered back, her words so sharp and rude making me hurt.
"You are getting me wrong, Hiral. I am happy for you, why won't I be? But this Archit guy, doesn't seem that good to me. In some eight to ten times I have met him, I can say that he doesn't deserve you", I replied, my tone gentler and softer, filled with emotions. I realized my eyes had gone moist and my tone was filled with hurt. Yes, I hate fights with Hiral. Fights or quarrels with a best friend always suck. They give a deeper cut than any argument with a boyfriend or a lover. I know I shouldn't discourage her about her date with Archit; but he is not that special one. When will she ever listen to me?
By a single glance at me, Hiral's annoyed expressions morphed into guilty ones. She opened her mouth to say something but closed it once again as no words seemed to tumble out of it.
"I am sorry, Aaru. I shouldn't get so rude with you, especially not for a guy. If you want, I call him and cancel the date", she said. Her words warmed my heart. How lucky I am to have a best friend like her, who is ready to cancel a date with her crush just for me. But I am a good friend too. If she is happy with Archit, then be it that way.
"Are you crazy? Your date is on Saturday, right? And today is Monday. So we are going shopping tomorrow", I gleefully replied.
She capered at my words, a big smile attached to her face. But then all of a sudden, she stopped walking and looked at me.
"I am a very bad best friend, ain't I?" She said and slapped herself tight on her face.
"Are you crazy? Why did you slap yourself?' I asked, startled by her action.
"Well", she sheepishly said, "Sarthak does that."
"I see, you are spending a good amount of time with Sarthak baba", I wiggled my brows and red painted her cheeks.
"Shut up. Just shut up", she said, pretending to be serious." Why are you teasing me with him? If he hears you, I am sure as hell he will run away and our good friendship will get endangered", she said, almost in a whisper. I already tease him with you, Hiral. And he thinks that if you hear me teasing him with you, you will run away. Such complications in life, god! Such complications!
"Okay, so you mean to say you don't want him to run away from you. I get it, Hiral. I get it", I mocked.
"Sshhh... I never said so", she flustered, failing to come back with a good reply.
