Anticipation

New start .

KaBrina heard a knock at her bedroom door as she tossed the last of her belongings in her purple and white Nike duffel bag . "C'mon " , she sighed loudly placing her hands on her hips as she looking around concentrating on her room making sure she had everything that she knew she couldn't possibly leave without . The door creaked open revealing her mother .

" Hey , are you almost ready ? " , Courtney asked her daughter her voice a bit shaky . She never thought she would see the day when she would be giving her only baby girl away because she didn't know what to do with her anymore. It was like as soon as she turned thirteen everything went downhill . She was out past 11 on school nights and walking the neighborhood streets . Every one of Courtney's family members said it was just the " Hughes" coming out of her . And Courtney was beginning to think they were right .

" Are you ? " , Courtney repeated herself once again when her question was still unanswered .

KaBrina shrugged , her back still turned on her mother . She couldn't believe she was making her leave . This was pretty much all she knew for the past 5 years since Courtney got remarried and her father moved to Dallas with his wife and sons . It was hard to let go , but she knew she had no choice or say in the matter . It had been planned and there was no way either of her parents would change their mind . Especially her mother – who she just knew was ready for her to leave .

It didn't get that bad for me to have to leave , she said to herself as she zipped her bag up and threw it over her shoulder . 

" I guess I am now " , turning around she kept her head down so she wouldn't have to look into her mother's face . Courtney stepped to her daughter to pat her on the shoulder 

" You never told me how school went . Why were you crying ? "

That's a stupid ass question. I had to leave everything I knew for almost 16 years that's why I was crying , she thought not really wanting to explain the situation to her mother 

. " It was ... just an emotional day . " , She almost choked up , but she swallowed it all back . 

" Can ... can we just go now ?" .

 " Alright " , Courtney turned and headed outside to her charcoal Grey Tahoe .

It took them all but five minutes to put KaBrina's bags in the truck and pull out the driveway . Once they were on 2821 heading towards the big city , KaBrina began to get a little anxious and excited . Despite leaving all of her friends she was sort of happy to get out of Walker county . As she thought about it there was seriously nothing left here for her at all . She had outgrown it all and it was about time she got into something a bit unfamiliar .

Before she could think about anything else her phone vibrated for the first time since she had got out of school . There was no use of her looking at caller ID because she knew who it was .

" Hello "

" Have you left yet ?! " , She shied away from the phone wincing at the tone of the person on the other line .

" Yes , Kay . I have left " , She told her best friend , Ace & stepsister Kaleana .

 " Damn ! I told daddy you were leaving right after school . Even Kaden told him that . " , Kay sighed .

 " Yea , I guess I'll call you when I get there ... "

" Stop acting all sad you getting out of here . You get to see all the fine ass niggas , party it up and shit . While I'm stuck here in lame ville until ... well until I get out of here . "

" I wish you could have come with me "

" Oh . I'll be there every little chance I get believe me . Your first visit will be on valentine's weekend because I know you're lonely antisocial ass won't have anybody that fast ... " Kaleana rambled . " Shut up Kay , ugh "

" You mad ? I'm just telling the truth . " , KaBrina rolled her eyes even though she knew that Kaleana was telling the truth because she knew her like no other person did . KaBrina and Kaleana had grew up together in grade school and then on to middle school . It didn't help that about five years ago Courtney ended up marrying Kaleana's father , Erin , making them step-sister's . They were like the female Bonnie and Clyde when they were together . When one got in trouble the other one would cover up or do something worse to cover it up .

" Whatever Kay . "

" I'm going to miss you though . Whatever you need even though we a hundred and something miles apart I got you . I'll hold it down . " , KaBrina could hear the sniffles from Kaleana trying to hold back tears and it instantly made her want to cry .

" I'll miss you too , Kaleana . It's not for long though . "

" Alright , I love you and I got to go " , Kaleana rushed from the phone and before KaBrina could reply she loved her also the phone was disconnected and her mom and stopped the car and parked . She looked up the read the sign " Park and ride " , before she could open her mouth to ask her mom why they were there she saw an all black dodge charger parked on the other side of where they were .

Out stepped a light-skinned man about 5'11 with deep curly hair atop of his head . Even though she hadn't seen him in some months it didn't take her any time to notice her father , Ezekiel Hughes . Right behind him was her older brother Qualeek and her Half-brother Jordan (Footz) . A big smile invaded her face at the sight of her brother's – she hadn't seen them since last summer . She couldn't open her door quick enough to get to them because they were right at her door . Footz being the one to lift her out of her seat .

" Greena , I missed you ! " , he twirled his sister around while kissing her forehead .

"Woah Woah whoa , get off my sister now " , Qualeek pushed his little brother to the side once KaBrina's feet were back on the pavement and rushed to hug her repeating the same action Footz did . 

" I've missed you more . "

KaBrina giggled 

" I missed the both of you too " .

 " So you didn't miss you're old man huh ? " ,Ezekiel had finally made it over to the meeting grounds after the brotherly sisterly love was shared . Not wasting any time she jumped into her dad's arms .

" Of course I've missed you too daddy " , she grinned showing off the half dimple she had inherited . 

" You better had " , he hugged his youngest child and only daughter briefly .

" Hey mama " , Qualeek went to driver's side of the Tahoe to give Courtney a hug .

 " Hey , Ms. Courtney " , Footz waved .

" You all set and ready to go ? " , Ezekiel asked 

" I guess " . 

" What do you mean , you guess ? You not ready to spend time with your old man and Titi ? " , he asked even putting a reference to his wife .

 " Where is Titi , anyway ? " , KaBrina looked back . 

" At work . She doesn't even know we came to get you . It will be a surprise "

" Come on so we can go though . The boys have a basketball game at seven and it is already 2:00 . Thank you for getting her out of school early , Courtney " , Ezekiel spoke to his Ex-wife for the first time since they had arrived .

" No problem . Come give me a kiss sweetheart " , Courtney called out opening her arms out for KaBrina . She rushed into her mother's arms giving her a hug and kiss whispering an I love you before grabbing her backpack and duffel bag .

 " Tell Kaden and Erin I love them too " , She said referring to Kaden , her youngest brother and Erin which was her step-father .

" Alright , Call me in the morning and please behave ! "

" Yes ma'am! " , she answered her mother while giving her bags to Qualeek to put in the car . Once everybody was nice and comfortable in the car they drove off getting on the highway to Dallas , Texas .
