Eleanor’s POV (Point Of View):
I yawned a big, round, satisfying yawn. I looked across the classroom at my best friend, Lottie, and rolled my eyes. She nodded in understanding. First day of the school year and I already knew that this Mrs. Rains was THE most boring teacher in the history of…well, teachers. I rested my chin in my hand a tried to keep my eyes open.
My phone buzzed. It was a text from Lottie saying “Girl, meet me after class and I’ll give you a red bull. You're falling asleep!” I smiled. What would I do without her?
I waited until Mrs. Rains had turned around to write on the blackboard before I quickly typed “You'd better, I was up all night texting YOU!” I touched ‘Send’ and shoved my Blackberry between my legs just as Mrs. Rains turned around. She saw the movement and gave me a disapproving look. I tried to put on an innocent face, but I was caught. Shit.
“Miss Harte!” She snapped in a harsh tone. “your phone, please.”
“Geez!” I muttered under my breath as I handed her my precious pink glittery phone.
“Who were you texting?”
“Nobody.”
Mrs. Rains glared at me and then began pressing random buttons trying to make the phone activate. I tried to hide a smile when she realized it was locked and needed a password. She took it to her desk and stuck it in a drawer before shooting me a hateful glance, then continuing with the lesson.
When the class finally ended, I headed up towards her desk to get my phone back. I put on a sweet smile and said, “Mrs. Rains, may I please have my phone back?” She was obviously still mad at me, because she slapped it down in my outstretched hand and said bitterly, “It will be kept in my possession in this class for the rest of the semester.”
My eyes widened. “What the hell? Are you even allowed to do that?”
“Actually, she is.”
I spun around to face the guy who had just spoken. I glared at him and mouthed the words, “Shut. Up.”
Mrs. Rains smiled. “Thank you, Damien. What can I help you with?”
I took that as a sign that I was dismissed. I walked out without giving either of them another glance. I don’t know who this new Damien guy was, but I hated him already. What a dick.
