They sat in the living room of their house in complete silence. Something kept running through his mind like a marathon. She looked over at her boyfriend. He was worried, anxious, about something. She could tell just by the way his eyes darted from side to side. He felt his stomach churning. He wanted to throw up. He was nervous. Nervous about what he was going to reveal. They had been so happy lately, and he felt like he was tearing that apart.
"Zach what's wrong?" she asked.
He got up off the couch and paced the living room. He walked back and forth, over and over again. He needed to tell her. It was now or never.
"Tay, you know I love you, right?"
She furrowed her eyebrows. "Of course I do."
"I love you a lot. Like a whole bunch."
His voice cracked. She nodded her head. "I love you too."
He stopped pacing and looked out the window. She stood and walked over to him. He looked at her. He pulled her into a bear hug. She was really confused to why he was acting so strange.
"Zach," she said, "Why are you acting so weird?"
He bit his lip. He couldn't keep his secret any longer. He looked at her and kissed her fast. She felt like something was wrong, and she asked him the first thing that came to mind.
"Are you breaking up with me?"
He shook his head quickly. She let out a small sigh of relief, but she still had an uneasy feeling.
After a few seconds of hesitation, he finally revealed what he had to say.
"So you know how I left the band last month?" he asked.
She nodded. "Yeah. And you wouldn't tell me why."
He took a deep breath.
"It's because I signed up for the army."
