I sigh. Getting the hall ready for Parents Day is brutal. Everything is yellow and green. "These colours don't go together!!" I shout into the air. Hannah giggles. "A while back The girls and I decided to play a prank on Parents Day. We found green paint and Brittany had managed to set up trip wires when the lights were turned on...every one looked like a scrawny version of The Hulk." We both laugh.
Mrs. Clevern stalks up to Hannah and I, and looks at our progress. "A banner and some streamers. Girls, did I not tell you, you had to prepare food?" Mrs. Clevern says with wickedness in her eyes. Hannah's eyes met mine and looked back at the bare table that was supposed to be holding food. Oops. "Sorry Miss. We will get it done ASAP." The teacher looks at us like that is impossible. I thought we could do its that was, until Mrs. Clevern said something. "You better. Because its in 3 hours." Our jaws drop in disbelief. We had been working for 2 hours. All the caffeine we had must have done something because I feel alert and it feels like its only been minutes.

Another 2 hours pass and everything looks great. I repainted the banner so that it was now purple and yellow. It looked ten times better. "So what do you think of us? Like, what was your first opinion and thought about the girls?" Hannah asks me. I chuckle a bit and think. "Well," I say, "my first thought was 'AH! Group hug!' but then I got to know you guys and your really great friends to have. How are you and Saige?"
"Well we're good I guess..." Hannah fades out. "And......." I encourage her. "Its my birthday and she hasn't even mention anything!" Hannah quickly blurts out.
Whoa. Wasn't expecting that. "Hannah I'm sure that Saige knows...maybe its a surprise party!" I try to lift her spirits in a foolish attempt. This is Hannah I'm dealing with. She is naturally bubbly. "Oh my gods! Did I tell you about the time when..." Hannah starts telling me all these adventures that she and Saige have been on. "...and there was this one where Saige and I went mountain climbing. We discovered that she could Travel! So we went..." On and on the stories went. Laughing at funny times and sighing at romantic ones. "...Saige met this guy when we went to Rome with my parents! He was so hot..." She didn't stop talking about the two of them until Mrs. Clevern walked in. "Girls, go back to your dorm and get ready! You will be hosts until your parents arrive." She says sharply and storms out.
We Jump back to the dorms and get ready. All the girls bar Hannah run inside. I run to my assigned bed and pull out a Prada bag. Brittany pulls a Channel box and hands it to Hannah, Saige walks over to Hannah and hands her a Pandora Bracelet and Emma gives her an ankle bracelet. "It matches the earring I got you for your 17th birthday." Emma says as she hands her the anklet. Hannah is grinning from ear to ear.
Saige walks over to Hannah and gives her a hug. "You didn't think that we would forget you 18th birthday did you?" We all laugh and hug. And I knew it was coming..."Group Hug!" They all shout. I join in and then get ready. We all just wear plain jeans and T-shirts. Our shoes are the only things that stand out. High heels and wedges. "Gorgeous as always." I say to the others.
My phone buzzes in my pocket. Jason messaged me.

Emma peers over my shoulder, takes one look at my phone and rounds us up. We Jump downstairs and into the main building that was packed with people. We all split up to find our family Hanna walks towards the window where her parents and little sister are standing and they hug her and give her presents. I see that Emma strolled over to the table and started talking with her mother. They both looked flawless. Brittany teared up and ran to her big brother and both her parents. Each one wrapping her in their arms.
I turn back to whats in front of me and see my dad. Standing there in jeans and a button-up shirt. I Run into him. "Dad!" I say. Blinking back tears that were fighting my eyes. "Sammy! How are you? I've missed you so much? I couldn't get hold of you. I tried at the same time every week day. 12 o'clock ! There was never a call back?" My dad says in a hurry. My dad. "Dad, Its still a school. I go to school like normal. Every weekday, from 9 to 3." I say laughing.
He laughs too and hugs me again. Hannah gestures me for me and my father to come over. So we do. Hannah introduces me to her parents."Sam, this is my mum, Heather and my dad, John and my little sister Katie." I politely introduce my self and my father and then talk to Hannah, as our parents exchange pleasantries. "So where's the rest of the gang?" Hannah asks. At that moment Emma and Brittany both walk up to us with their families trailing behind them. I am introduced to 4 new people. Emma's mum, Therese. Brittany's brother, Stanley, along with her parents, Conner and Lori. We all chit chat and Hanna's family -along with my dad- walks over and all parents start talking about work and politics. Parents right?
My brain remembers something that I had completely forgotten about. Apparently so did the others. "Saige!!" We all chorus. We Jump every where. The greenhouse, the dorm, the back fence. We eventually find her by the crate. The heat waves still rising. "Its time." Saige says. We all nod and agree. I burn a near by shrub to see if my influence is still working. The shrub turns to ashes. "Your getting good at that." I hear April say as she walks out from the green house.
I smile at her. She waves her hand and the ashes blow in the wind. "I'll be back." April says. She disappears and reappears, but Jason is with her. I nod at him and he nods back. He understands. "Lets do this." I say. I'm glad my voice is strong. Because the rest of me feels like it could collapse at any moment.
I burn the crate. The metal starts to pop. The girls all around me Jump away and Jump back. Now they had weapons in their hands. Knives. I remembered seeing knives in the principles office. I cant get distracted. I snap away from the memory and focus on the now black crate. More heat waves emerge and a we hear a roar. April Waves her hands and the metal crate starts to wobble form the wind and heat. I feel a rush of cold air and the crate explodes. Shards of metal fly out into the air. My arms gets cut but I cant feel it. My eyes strain up and up into the sky. A blur of green and red. This was massive. The beast lets out an ear piercing roar. "Its the dragon thing that the 4 fought! They never killed it!" Saige shouts. "Sam! Do something!" Emma shouts at me. Her knife aimed at the sky. "My fire doesn't reach up that high!" I snap back at Emma. "My ice does." Jason says as he faces his palms up toward the Dragon. Its black wings come swooping down and slice through the greenhouse. Almost cutting us. Jason's ice freezes the beasts foot but it quickly breaks it.
It swoops done again. We all duck. A human screams. We have no time to look.
The dragon comes back and I burn its face. It roars in agony and soars back up into the sky. April manipulates the wind and pushes the dragon back onto the ground. We charge at the beast. Knives and fists moving fast. All of us except Saige. I turn and I couldn't see any one anywhere. I turn back around and Aprils wind pushes the beasts body into the ground. Crushing its bones. My fire burns its wings, its spikes and finally its face. We killed the dragon.
"NO! No! NO! Saige!" I turn back to the empty space and see Hannah on her knees and Saige in her arms. I Jump to them and drop to my knees. My knees now covered in a red liquid. "SAIGE!" Hannah screams. Tears spilling over her eyes. "Hannah, Its okay," Saige whispers. "I can be with my mum and dad now." Hot tears burst from my eyes and tears are coming form everyone. "Saige. Don't leave. Please." Brittany whimpers. "The gash in her stomach is killing her! Somebody do something!" Hannah screams. She holds Saige tight to her body. Saige gives a weak smile to her best friend. And then to the rest of us.
"Love. I love you all. I wish I could see you there in a white dress Hannah. And Sam, I wish I could see you do a proper Jump. Brittany, take care of Emma, no more fights between her and April. Hannah. Remember when I met that guy in Rome? He gave me his number. but I've always loved you like a sister. And I always will."
Saige dies in her best friends arms. "NO! NO! No! SAIGE! Come back to me! Saige! NO!" I go to help Hannah up. But she screams at me. "Don't touch her!" "Hannah, C'mon. We have to go tell someone." I say softly. "I will carry her." Jason walks over and crouches in front of Hannah. She hesitantly places Saiges body into Jason's arms. Jason cradles Saige's body and we walk toward the school. Covered in Saiges blood, and not looking back.
