I wake up to the sound of my alarm clock blaring. I sit up waiting for my eyes to adjust to the bright lights pouring from my window. I ram my fist down on the the large piece of screaming metal, it's silent for a second now the same only sound in the room is the pocket watch I've turned into a necklace around my neck.
Oh I'm sorry I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Alice Blair, and this is the story you won't find in the children's section of your local library. This is a story that might shock you, so just sit back and take a read. I do emphasize that you sit. You'll see why soon.
I can hear birds chirping as I straighten my long, thick, brown hair. I'm almost done getting ready for school. My mom tells me my eyes are 'special'. They're a vibrant royal blue, with a bright yellow ring around the edges. I have a tan tint to my skin and I'm not very tall, and my mom always says "Only dogs like bones, men like meat"
"Today should be interesting"
*knock* *knock*
"Come in!"
I yell at my door down the stairs leading towards the rest of the house. My my mom walks in, her bright brown eyes vibrant
"Alice! Alice, I've got the perfect thing for your first day! I was going to save it for your 16th birthday but, what the hell."
She holds out a box. It's not wrapped or anything, just a brown box with a rope for a bow. I take it from her hands as she shoves it my direction. I pull off the bow and open the box. It's a business card with a white rose on the corner. It reads *blossoms shop*
"What's this? Is it a job or something?"
"Nope. That is something you should only use in emergencies. See the number on the back? tThat's what u contact if something happens..."
She stops and looks at me as her smile fades, her mood has changed. It seems more serious.
"Do you still have the watch I gave you?"
"Yes mom, I know, don't leave the house without it." I say in an irritated voice.
"Alice, I love you."
"Yeah mom! I love you too!"
She left, walking down the stairs out of the loft, slowly shutting the door. That door has always squeaked, sounding like a car with bad breaks. I continue getting ready. My hair looks like a lions mane. I put on my ripped high-waisted skinny jeans, my band crop top, and the white leather jacket I've had since I was 10. I always loved this jacket. On the back it has beautiful decal of black outlined roses and beautiful plants and vines and the words Wonderland across the shoulder blades, with a large pocket watch a lot like mine in the middle.
I run down stairs to the kitchen to grab my keys and bag. My mom looks up from her scattered mess of papers on the table
"What's this? No kiss good-bye?" She chuckled
I walk over to the table and kiss my mom on the cheek. Before I move my face she tickles my stomach exposing my embarrassing laugh.
"MOM you suck! Butthole!"
"Yeah, yeah whatever, get out of here kid!"
She throws me the look she always does, her happy little sideways grin. I grab my stuff and a coffee and head outside to my little jeep. The engine roars to life as I twist the key. I drive to school listening to the the tick tock of my pocket watch and the rumble of the engine.
Today feels different. I have this dark feeling. The sun isn't out anymore, it's all grey, and it's drizzling.
