Prologue
Jynn's Diary
15th July 1998
Dear diary,
Today was my first day at my new school. It was not as great as I thought it would be. I'm the new girl again.
Since Dad got promoted, we had to move to Sacramento, California.
I was completely devastated to have to move AGAIN.
Oh Diary, how I miss Kalie.
The things we did, the crazy things we did. Best friends are forever, but not seeing Kalie? That would ruin everything.
Back to the topic of school.
Sixth graders can be mean. A group of girls were walking past me in the hallway and laughed at my rainboots. I hadn't had enough time to unpack so I just grabbed my wellies that were on the doorstep.
And a group of boys threw trash at me and hit my arm full of books and all my stuff fell onto the floor. They laughed at me. But then this guy and his friend came up to me and shooed the other boys away. They helped me pick up my books and stuff that were scattered on the floor.
"Woah sorry there, um what's your name?"the boy with brown eyes asked.
"I-I'm Jynn," I stuttered.
"Jynn, you're new around here, aren't you?"the boy with blue eyes said.
"Um, yeah," I said, looking at my boots.
"I'm Anthony, and this is Ian," the boy with brown eyes said.
"Hehe, yeah! Nice boots, by the way!" Ian grinned.
I feel my cheeks turn bright pink.
"Ian!" Anthony said, nudging Ian's arm.
"What? I like her boots!"
"Whatever," Anthony said, with a grin on his face.
"Why don't you sit with us for lunch? We normally sit alone together, anyway." Anthony smiles at me.
"Um, sure."
"Okay then! We'll see you later! Bye Jynn!" Ian smiles and waves.
"Bye,"Anthony grinned.
Then they both walked away.
"Bye,"I whisper to myself.
So I guess sometimes there are nice people in sixth grade.

Dear diary,
Me, Anthony and Ian have been hanging out together since lunch that day. They're really nice and really funny. Apparently they had just met each other at the beginning of this year in Science class, but they'd already clicked and became best friends.
They had welcomed me into their little circle, and I felt like a had friends again just after a few days of moving here.
