"I don't think it matters," Kayci says softly, putting a strand of Edyxs' black hair back behind her ear. She takes her hand on her own, webbing their fingers together. "My mom can't know, Kayci," Edyx whispers, her green eyes shining with images tears. "If-if she finds out..." Her voice trails off. The sound of the front door opening and closing startles Kayci, causing her to jump up from Edyxs bed. "Shit," Edyx mutters, looking out the window to see her mothers car in the driveway. "Fuck. Fuck, fuck, fuck. Kayci, you've got to go. Now."

Kayci hears the panic in Edyxs voice and grabs her jacket from the desk. "Edyx," her mother calls out from downstairs. "Are you home?" The  stairs creak as she starts them, an announcement. Kayci gives  Edyx a quick kiss on the cheek before opening the window and crawling out onto the rooftop.  She looks back, grins and winks. "Get the hell off my fucking roof," Edyx whispers, her voice playful. Kayci rolls her eyes and jumps off the roof, into the bushes  below.

Edyx breathes a sigh of relief as the door to her bedroom opens. She turns, looks at her mother. "I-I uh...didn't expect you to be home so early," her mother says, leaning against the door frame. "Yeah,"  Edyx says, curling her toes into the carpet. "Sorry. I forgot to call and tell you. I got a ride home from Kayci." Her mother ducks her head, sighing heavily . "I told you to stay away from her, Edyx. She-she's a bad influence on you." Edyx  casts her eyes down,  ignoring her  mothers comment. "Mom, I've got homework to do," she lies. "Okay," her mother sighs, backing away  from the doorway. "J-just tell me if you need anything,  okay?" Edyx nods her head,  a swift motion, and closes her door. She pulls out her phone,  and calls Kaycii. "Meet me at our spot in 20 minutes."  Grabbing her bag , she crawls out of her bedroom window, jumps down, and runs.
