(I do not own Naruto)

(6 year old Naruto P.O.V.)

I woke up on the cold, hard ground of the pathway. I heard the swing that was next to me swaying in the breeze. I was bruised, bloody, broken; it couldn't get much worse from there. Dragging myself to the grass as I felt for it, I lay down on it, grimacing in pain from my wounds that they caused me. I wondered why they hated me so much. I didn't do anything wrong, but they kept calling me a "demon" or a "monster". At least I had someone to talk to.

'Kyuubi? Will you tell me your name now?' I asked mentally.

'Kah! Look at yourself. Was it those worthless kids again? I swear to god..' the nine-tailed demon fox rested his head on his arms, sighing. He had completely ignored my question.

'Why won't you tell me your name?' I asked again.

'You don't deserve to know it. No one does. Now let me rest please. And don't go dying on me.' Kyuubi didn't answer me anymore after that.

I, Naruto Uzumaki, had been blind my entire life, meaning I couldn't see. Despite this, I wanted to become a ninja. I wanted to become the very best that I could be. I sat up, feeling for a nearby tree and leaned against it, digging up a book I hid earlier that day.

"Let's see. Chapter 1.." I read the book for about an hour in my tattered clothes. I thought it was night since it was cold out. I felt a breeze blew by me and I suddenly felt a faint sense of embarrassment rush through me. I had always been able to sort of sense emotions. It was sometimes hard to tell the difference though. For a second, I thought it was a fluke. But moments later, I heard footsteps approaching my area. I then heard a gasp.

"Oh n-no! Naruto, what happened?" I heard a shaky voice coming closer and I instantly knew it was Hinata Hyuga, one of my closest friends. I felt concern course through my veins.

"I k-kinda got b-beat up again," I croaked, weak from blood loss.

"Let me h-help you up, okay? Let's g-get you to the hospital," Hinata said with pure kindness in her voice. She helped me up and let me lean on her shoulder. I nuzzled my nose into Hinata's hair before I passed out.

"Naruto.."

"Naruto."

"N-Naruto!"

I woke up with a start, feeling my head as I had a migraine. I heard someone shift next to me.

"Oh good, you're awake.. t-thank goodness." Hinata's voice! Her voice overflowed with relief.

"I was so w-worried about you. You've been asleep for a-a day and a half. You sometimes cried in y-your sleep when I checked on you.." Hinata sounded very concerned.

"Oh, i-it's fine. I-I always do that," I said reassuringly, but this seemed to worry Hinata even more. Before she could respond, I heard a door opening and someone walking in. I heard a sigh of relief.

"Thank goodness you're alright, Naruto." It was Iruka's voice. Iruka sat on the bed I was in. "Was it those kids again?"

"Y-yeah," I said, shifting uncomfortably.

"D-don't worry Naruto! We w-won't let those kids get you again!" Hinata said with cheerfulness in her voice, though rather shakily.

"Naruto, listen to me. In about six years, you'll join the academy and become a ninja, just like you wanted, okay?" I felt Iruka's joy for me and I smiled.

"Yeah!"
