It was dark, darker then it had even been. Lady Meredith had just given birth to a beautiful baby girl. She was forlorn because her husband was at war with the southern kingdom so he could not be with her but at least he'd have a pleasant surprise when he came home. The war had been getting closer and closer ,the darkness that followed the southerners dark magic was spreading. Dangerous things had started creeping in the dark nights of winter. Lady Meredith was worried, this was no world for a innocent soul like her baby Celestial to grow up in. But what choice did she have? Amaranthine was at war, light magic and dark battling for the throne. King Balomir had stolen the westerners prince a younger boy of 4 nobody knows what had happened to Theodore only that he disappeared into the night.Meredith is drawn from her dark thoughts as baby Celeste starts to fuss. 'Hush young one, all will be well soon enough my love.' The queen whispered to her new born child. The queens hand maids flittered throughout the stone room. ' Clara' the queen called out to one of her hand maid. The young girl of 18 walked quickly towards the queen on long legs, 'yes my queen' she curtsied.
'Fetch me, Gawain and Fendrel. Make haste" the queen commanded the young maid. The girl ran from the room, as fast as her many skirts would allow. The queen looked at her baby. Celestial looked like the perfect mix of the queen and king, Meredith noted that Celestial had her fathers sparkling royal blue eyes. Celestial's hair was the colour of freshly fallen snow, with pale skin and a light speckle of freckles. Her hair would probably darken as she gets older thought the queen. The queen sighed what a world for such innocents to be born into. Amaranthine had once been a beautiful place and a peaceful place to live. It would have been the perfect place for such a beautiful princess to grow up. But now it was no place for a baby to live in. Which is why she had sent for the elf and the dwarf. They were wise and magical creatures who were loyal friends to the king and queen.
Gawain and Fendrel, enter the room quietly and kneel before the queen. 'Rise my dear friends' the queen says smiling softly at the odd pair. Gawain was an elf from the southern forests he had moved east to the kingdom after King Balomir, had burnt the forest down killing countless tribes of elves. The elves had always been a peaceful race, but the wretched King had always hated the different races. The queen had met Gawain on her journey back from the northern kingdom. She had gone to her home kingdom to see her brother married and on her way back saw the elf on the side of the road he had wandered far from the south and he looked hurt so the queen took him in. Now Fendrel was an entirely different story, the stocky dwarf had kind of just appeared one day and never left. They two never really got along yet they were always together. The queen loved them to death and trusted them with her life which is why she had a mission for them.
Amaranthine was one of many realms, and the magical races could access the other realms. Which is where Gawain and Fendrel came in. ' I am in need of your assistance, my old friends. This is no world for a baby to live and until the war is over I want her to live in safety.' The queen's voice cracked as tear sprung to her eyes, 'I need you to send her to a realm where she will be safe and make sure she is with loving people.' The queen's tear fell silently down her face. 'But my queen' Gawain protested 'the princess will be perfectly safe here under our protection.' Meredith shook her head, she could feel the darkness getting stronger. 'No Gawain, the darkness grows ever stronger. I fear that our protection will not be enough.' She said, Fendrel nodded 'Aye, I understand, I feel what yeh mean. If the cumberground won't do it.' The dwarf stated, Gawain started 'Now see here you gobermouch! I'm not useless!'
The queen rolled her eyes as the two started up. 'Enough' she said, she had no need to raise her voice for they stopped when they heard her soft voice. 'You are my friends your counsel is always welcome but not for this I made up my mind. Take my baby to a safe place.' The two men nodded, the queen handed Gawain the gentler of the two Celestial. She gave her one last kiss on the forehead before the two left. Meredith cried for her loss but knew in her heart it was what was best for her daughter and the kingdom.
