CHAPTER 4

JOY

Pagpasok namin sa office ni Aunt Hera nakita namin 'tong nakaupo. Agad namang tumakbo si Erika at nakipag beso-beso dito, close na close kasi ang mga 'to kaysa sa pamangkin nitong si Luci. Well, before close na close talaga sila pero may mga pangyayari talaga na hindi natin maiiwasan kahit ano pa ang gawin natin.

Malaki ang pinagbago naming lahat, but I preferred to be like this in order to avoid thinking about our past. It's already done, but I can still see it as if it were just yesterday. It was traumatic, especially for Luci and Shax.

"Hi, girls! It's nice seeing you again. How's America?" nakangiti nitong sabi habang inaayos ang mga papeles na nasa lamesa nito. Kahit nasa 40's niya na ito ay napakaganda pa rin kung manamit at aakalain mong nasa mid 20's palang niya ito. She's still single because she's waiting for someone 'daw'?

"It's good naman po, but Aunt Hera why do we need to go back here in Philippines ba?  Hindi ba pwedeng lumipat nalang kami ng school pero sa America pa rin? My boyfriends are crying, because I wasn't there daw." maarteng sabi nito at nakanguso pa. Tumawa na lamang si Aunt Hera at binigyan kami ng tig isang kopya ng schedule namin for the whole year. 

I went through the papers, and what is this Precalculus subject? Again? We're already through with this topic while we're still in America. What the fuck?

"So there you have it, your complete schedule for this year. I hope you'll have a good time here and don't get into any fights. Understood, ladies?" sabi nito habang nakatingin ng seryoso sa'min. Okay, we're not that horrible. We know where to put ourselves.

ERIKA

Naglalakad na kami papunta sa classroom namin ng biglang magvibrate ng sunod sunod ang cellphone ko.

'Lillith, where are you? I miss you.'

'Wanna hang out later? I'm having a pool party tonight.'

'What are you doin'? You're not picking up my calls!'

I simply turned off my phone. I already missed my old life. I'm afraid I'd go insane walking like this in broad daylight.

Tumigil kami sa isang pinto at kumatok na si Luci. Ito na siguro yung classroom namin. Ang sakit na rin ng paa ko at kanina pa kami nagpapalakad-lakad. Bumukas naman ito at may teacher na pala sa loob.

"Are you the transferees from America?" tanong nito habang nakangiti.

"Yes, Ma'am. Sorry we're late." sabi naman ni Luci habang nakangiti.

'Can I sit already?' I whispered to Luci and she just glared at me. Napatayo naman ako ng maayos, bakit naman ganon 'yon makatingin haha.

"Can you first introduce yourselves?" Pagtapos nitong sabihin 'yon ay umupo na ito sa table at tumingin samin ng nakangiti. Is she aware of who we are? What's with that creepy smile?

'I think I already know them?'

'These nerds? How?'

'Didn't you see what happened in the garden? Sapphire and her gang are with them earlier.'

'Really? What happened?'

'I don't really know pero galit na galit na umalis si Sapphire.'

'We know how Sapphire get her revenge when someone gets in her way. I want to see that again hahaha!'

'Well, I know how Luci too.' I whispered to myself and rolled my beautiful eyes.

"Quiet, class!"

Nagpakilala na kami isa isa at wala namang kakaibang nangyari. Nakaupo ako ngayon sa dulo kasama ko si Shax at Luci. Nasa left side (middle) naman si Astarte at Hecate habang nasa right side (front) naman si Kasdeya.

"Okay, class! My name is Jennifer Castillo, you can call me Ma'am Jen or Ms. Castillo. So, now lets proceed to our lesson. My subject for this school year is Precalculus. Alam ko na marami ang nagreklamo dahil bakit daw may math na subject ngayong taon. This is the Department's order, okay. So, Precalculus is the study of the mathematical prerequisites for calculus, including algebra---" Hindi ko na pinakinggan ang sinasabi ni Ms. Castillo at baka tuluyan pang sumakit ang ulo ko. Sino ba namang may gusto ng math, right? It's so complicated, that's why I hate it.

It's not that I'm dumb or what ha, I just don't want to see so many X and Y's again for the entire school year. Masyado ng maraming problema ang mundo, dumadagdag pa ang problema ng math na yan. Matutulog nalang siguro ako sa ngayon at anong oras na rin kami nakapagpahinga kagabi.
