Chapter One: Where a new story begins

It all starts when a writer sits down with pen in hand and paper in front, thinking about the very first words of this new masterpiece to be. The book should be planned with every inch of precision, knowing, when, what and where the pen leads the story throughout these precious moments  of your time. The first words are to be gentle, almost singing the reader into his or her lullaby, a sweet harmonic tune flows out of the pen. Yet these words must take hold of the reader with a gripping sensation, they must be bold and striking to say "Here I am! Read on!"

To avoid using the same, words, the same scenes or even the same plot, an author must weave an interesting personal touch to his or her books. For example we will follow the life of Emily Graden, a cover name although she not a very well known writer. She is not a very young, nor a very old character, and neither is she shy or confident. she is married with one son who now lives in Bath, where, from his last letter, it has recently snowed; but that's beside the story. And because this is a story, I will let you, the reader, imagine what she looks like throughout these precious pages.

We start in the very heart of Cornwall, where many dreams live.  A large house sits silently, surrounded by same-looking ones although one can tell that each is different. Maybe the garden contains more shrubs and bushes, or the paint is a little more worn, or a little more perfect than the others. These houses are layed out in a long line above a beautiful shimmering harbour which shows many colours depending on how you see it. Boats, small and large, are moored up beyond the shore where the cool water laps quietly and soundly against the soft, yellowing sand. Above the jetty is Emily Graden's house. A grand house to be sure as balconies overlook a surrounding garden and driveway where shade is provided by a little orchard of trees. However the garden is only present. It is not loved, even though it may be well kept. The life of Emily and her husband never grew out of the house very often any more and was almost always spent with each other. Simple and tranquil were the days that she had spent here.

Emily often looked around her room or outside the window for inspiration, but none came as usual. She hadn't written many books, and the books she had written, had never come easily. But this time, she was determined. This time she wanted to write a story which would change the way that she would look at things, even if the only person that it would benefit from it, would be herself. She then decided, after much consideration and blank looks onto her blank page, that she would base it around an experience that she would have herself, one which only she could find and only she could see it in the way that she would. All that she has to do, is make it happen.

Satisfied, she sat down next to her husband in the old easy chair.
