I smiled and set my phone aside, I enjoyed having conversations with those two but they could get boring at times. I looked at my reflection in the bathroom mirror. My hair was in a messy bun, and my mascara had come off and was now under my eyes. Then there's was the dark circles under my eyes. I hadn't been getting enough sleep, and I knew it. I took a deep breath in and felt goosebumps appear on my arms.
I washed my face and reaplied my makeup, mom had asked me to go to the store and pick up dinner. I should have done it earlier instead of procrastinating for around four hours, but of course I didn't. I fixed my hair quickly and grabbed my bag.
I stood at the street corner next to the park as I waited for the city bus to come. I watched some kids playing baseball in one of the fields to pass the time. There wasn't any benches at bus stops in the residential area, so I ended up sitting on the curb instead. I would have driven to the store myself, but I had left my car at a friends house overnight. Once the kids left I went on to watch a trail of ants walk where the pavement and the curb meet. I poked the ants with a stick I found nearby for a bit. However, I got bored soon and decided to look around a bit. Now my side of town isn't exactly safe, ESPECIALLY for someone my age. Did I think of that? No, of course I didn't. I walked down Floraland and turned onto Grandview. It was very quiet that day, It made me uneasy. It was never quiet, someone was always yelling, cars were whizzing by, narrowly missing any pedestrians. I knew there was something wrong. I walked down a back road only to be apprehended.
I had been pushed onto the ground, scraping my left cheek. I sat up to see three figures standing over me.
"Well arn't you a pretty one?" Someone said in a thick southern accent.
"Leave me alone." I said standing up to face my attackers.
"Or what?"
"Or i'll fuck you up"
"If you do that I'll have to ruin that pretty face of yours, and that's not something I want to do." Another person said.
I stared back. Then I saw my opening, there was a gap between two of the men. I went for it.
I was immediately grabbed by one of them.
"Let me go!" I screamed, hoping that someone would hear me.
"Did you really think you were getting away that easily?" The man smirked.
The man had me by the arm.
I frantically looked for someone to call out to. Then I saw that our neighbors were just getting out of their car. They probably couldn't see me from this angle, but they were definitely still in earshot.
"GAIL! LARRY! HELP ME, I'M OVER HERE!" One of the men put their hand over my mouth, but luckily Larry and Gail had heard me and we're running over.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?!" Larry yelled at them. I felt the man tighten his grip.
"You'd better get the hell out of here before we call somebody." Gail threatened. Though the threat of being fought down by Larry seemed much greater. He was a drug dealer to most of the people in the Grandview area, and was feared by most of the residents. He was very nice to us though, he even mowed our yard for us since our mower was broken.
The man let go of me and pushed me down to the ground scraping the left side of my face once again.
"Let's get out of here." One of the men said, the others immediately agreeing with him." Larry and Gail waited for them to be out of sight and helped me off the ground.
"Thank you." I shakily said to them.
"Can you get back by yourself?" Gail asked.
"I'm fine, it's only down the street." I said trying to sound reassuring.
"Alright, tell us if you need any help" Gail said smiling at me.
"I will, thanks again." I said as I walked away.
"Be more careful around here please." Gail yelled over to me.
"I'll try my best." I responded.
I looked in my mirror once again, the scrape on my face looked horrible. I grabbed some rubbing alcohol and began cleaning it. I winced when the alcohol touched the wound. I tried my best to clean the scrape out completely. Then I put a bandage over it, luckily it was winter break so the people I knew wouldn't see me. My mom didn't pay much attention to me , so she probably wouldn't see it either.
I decided that I could still go to the store, the bus would be here in about five minutes now. I headed outside and waited for the bus.
