A Place I Once Knew
By: Tulsa Eclise
Stacks of paper,
Concrete walls,
Harsh blank whiteness,
Echoing halls.
Everything has color,
But all is black and white.
So unchanging, so frozen,
Day after night.
Hidden in pictures,
Stored in my head,
There are wide-open spaces,
Sunsets of red.
Flowers all bloom
In the warmth of spring.
The sky is much bluer,
A clear, open thing.
A place where I feel,
Where the wind seems to breathe.
Big, beautiful cottonwoods,
And oaks with green leaves.
There's less people than land,
Houses few, far between.
A land painted with love,
Not the city, so mean.
People drive trucks,
Not sleek little cars.
Not a cloud in the sky,
And at night shine the stars.
Why did I leave?
I may never know.
But I'm learning fast
That there's no place like home.
