Mark's P.O.V
Letting out a quick sigh of relief I let my back slide down the wall before my body hit the pavement. Shaking in slight fear I take a quick look at my surroundings. Tall trees were scattered in random places, oak, the only trees you could really find in this place. They stood taller than a skyscraper it seemed, maybe because I was just so small compared to them. Miniature houses were placed between the every two trees along with the one I had pressed myself against. They were all made of stone, making them overly noticeable in the excessively green forest, but that was what they were meant to do. In fact they were built for the soul purpose of just being there, waiting for a stranger to walk into one of them, only to find they couldn't get out. Because in those houses was nothing but death to await them. It was all a trap placed by the bandits, also known as the lowest of lows here in the kingdom.
The bandits were known for their love of traps and stealing things people held precious, along with murder every now and then. Their leader was one who seemed unstoppable, and they liked it that way. If someone was to cross the bandits they were as good as gone and every person, from the king to the slaves knew it,"Come out come out wherever you are, Mark." I was lucky enough to be the one who had crossed them.
My mother and younger sister had been in danger, the bandits had decided to call their annual 'rage'. The rage was one that gave them a right to go into peasants or commoners homes and do whatever they pleased except for murder. But even that rule had a loop-hole, the king made them sign a contract that said under watch of anyone they are not allowed the right to kill people, but the contract didn't say anything about killing with no one there to witness, or if the witnesses are killed. Tonight was the night they decided my neighborhood would be their next target.
I shiver as I recalled the sounds they made while banging on my houses door, the screams my mom and sister made as they were beaten and the blood they lost when they were killed. Seeing it fit I had taken two lives for two lives, and now four bodies lay dead in my past home. My justice was not the justice of the bandits it seemed, because now I was officially a target for them, and no matter how it went I would be killed eventually.
Tears fell down my face in fear which I quickly wiped away, I wasn't going to live my last moments in fear, and I sure as hell wasn't going to just let them take my life without fighting for it. Shaking my head I nodded to myself, glad my little pep talk helped,"Mark....." I sucked in my breath, not daring to breathe knowing that they were as close as close could be. The voice could be heard from the other side of the house I was using to hide.
Gulping I slammed my hand over my mouth in dread, thinking of the best escape route. Maybe I could knock them out, well I don't know how many there are, god you're so stupid sometimes Mark,"Got you!" The whisper hit my ears and I jumped before quickly opening my surprisingly closed eyes only to see a scary looking male towering over me. I squeaked out of fright,"P-please." The man scoffed in response, his hand raising slightly before slapping my cheek with a loud smack. Continuing my weak act I pretended to shiver and hold my cheek in pain,"Wh-what are y-you gonna do to m-me?" The man smiled,"Oh don't worry I'm only here to kill you."
Letting out a loud battle cry I kneed the man in the no-no square, causing him to bend down with his hands grasping at his wounded area. I took advantage of the situation by bringing my knee back up to meet with his inflamed face that was looking at the ground. Adrenaline was rushing through me as I ran away from the male and bolted towards the trees, which gave no coverage being so spread apart. Only seconds later the sound of heavy footsteps invaded my ears, I didn't dare look back, one thing books had taught me was that looking back only slowed you down and I wasn't about to doubt my favorite authors.
